Commissioner Kamohelo Teele took to the podium at the commemoration of International Albinism Awareness Day, hosted by the Department of Social Development, Free State Province at the Ferdie Meyer Hall in Welkom. Commissioner Teele delivered a compelling address on the intersectionality of gender, disability and albinism, highlighting how persons with albinism, particularly women and girls, navigate overlapping forms of discrimination that laws and institutions need to better address. His message went beyond policy as he engaged children at their level of understanding and persons with disabilities in the audience, encouraging them to dream boldly and pursue every opportunity available to them.

Challenges relating to unemployment, economic empowerment, and access to opportunities were among the key issues discussed. The programme reaffirmed the importance of collaboration in advancing youth development and gender equality.

The CGE wishes Bafana Bafana all the best as they play against Mexico at this year's World Cup kick-off game at 21:00 tonight. Prior to this year, the last time they played in the World Cup was in 2010 when they received an automatic berth as the host nation.

While the nation celebrates this, the Commission continues to call for gender equality and transformation in the South African Sports. The CGE acknowledges that women’s football does not attract as many sponsorships as the men’s, and views this as yet another form of systemic gender inequality in society.

As we celebrate and cheer for Bafana Bafana this World Cup, the Commission reaffirms its call for the eradication of Gender Inequality in Sport.

The Limpopo Office, in partnership with the Department of Health, conducted a Gender and Development (GAD) training session for healthcare professionals in the Sekhukhune District. This collaborative initiative aimed to strengthen the capacity of frontline healthcare workers to respond effectively to the persistent challenge of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF). By bringing together healthcare professionals from various medical facilities across the district, the training created a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and the development of strategies to address systemic gaps in victim support services and legal compliance within the healthcare sector.

Commissioner HRH Eurika Mogane recently spearheaded a strategic engagement at the Mbombela High Court with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) aimed at strengthening accountability, cooperation, and coordination between the NPA, the South African Police Service (SAPS), and the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Through the engagement, the Commission underscored its mandate to monitor cases as a critical tool in ensuring that the justice system works for the people, particularly victims of gender-based violence. The Mpumalanga Office will continue to monitor and track court dates, postponements, and outstanding prosecutorial decisions of specific files to ensure that cases do not fall through the cracks.

Members of the public can lodge complaints with the Commission through the Commission’s website: https://cge.org.za/complaints/

A key outcome of the engagement was a commitment to strengthen inter-institutional collaboration through joint programmes and coordinated responses to governance and service delivery challenges.
