Services SETA Our primary function is to facilitate skills development by establishing learning programmes.

Our primary function is to facilitate skills development by establishing learning programmes such as learnerships, skills programmes, internships and other strategic learning initiatives. This is done through the disbursement of grants to employers and training providers. We are also tasked with monitoring the quality of occupation-based training within the services sector scope as delegated by th

e Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO). There are millions of South Africans, young and old, who need to learn new skills. Some are already in employment and need to improve their skills and to learn new ones so they can play a meaningful role in South Africa’s economy. The services sector, one of the economic sectors of the economy, contributes over a quarter of the GDP and employs over 3 million people. To maintain and growth the strength of this sector, the industry needs to employ competent and skilled labour force. The Services SETA bridges the gap between the formal education and training system and the workplace by facilitating and funding learning programmes that build skills-set required by industries (the world of work). To achieve this, the Services SETA works in partnership with public and private learning institutions accredited to deliver the training on its behalf.

Youth Day Conversation Focuses on Opportunities in the Real Estate Sector

The Real Estate Youth Summit, hosted by the South African Youth in Property Association (SAYIPA) in partnership with the Services SETA, is currently underway at GIBS Business School, bringing together young people, industry leaders and sector stakeholders to explore opportunities within South Africa’s real estate sector.

The discussions are centred on an important question: how can young black South Africans meaningfully participate and thrive in the real estate industry?

The room is alive with engaging conversations on transformation, access to opportunities, entrepreneurship, skills development, and pathways into property ownership and investment.

Key stakeholders contributing to the dialogue include the Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority (PPRA), Joburg Property Company (JPC), Property Sector Charter Council (PSCC), Academy of Construction & Real Estate, and the National Housing Finance Corporation SOC Ltd (NHFC), who are sharing practical insights aimed at empowering young people to become active participants in the property sector.

Through its Real Estate and Related Services Chamber, the Services SETA continues to support platforms that connect young people with information, networks and opportunities in the sector.

As South Africa commemorates the 1976 Soweto Uprising at FNB Stadium, we honour the legacy of the young people who stood for access to education by bringing information on opportunities within the Post-School Education and Training (PSET) sector directly to today’s youth.

The Services SETA is among the exhibitors on the ground, engaging young people on skills development opportunities, including learnerships, workplace-based learning, career guidance, and post-school education and training pathways.

Through this initiative, we continue to support young people with access to information and opportunities that can help shape their future and contribute meaningfully to the country’s growth and development.

Today, South Africa marks Youth Day and the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Soweto Uprising, a defining moment in our country’s history. Led by courageous young people who stood against Bantu Education, the uprising helped shape the future of learning and opportunity for generations to come.

In honour of this legacy, the Services SETA is participating in the PSET on Wheels initiative taking place at FNB Stadium. The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to bring post-school education and training opportunities closer to young people and communities.

The President of the Republic of South Africa, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa, is expected to deliver a keynote address as part of the day’s commemorative programme.

Led by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), the initiative brings together government institutions, post-school education and training institutions, SETAs, employed youth and unemployed youth.

On the ground, young people are being exposed to information on education pathways, skills development programmes, learnerships, workplace-based learning opportunities and employment prospects available within the broader post-school education and training system.

For the Services SETA, this engagement is about more than commemorating the past. It is about honouring the courage and sacrifice of the youth of 1976 by helping today’s young people access the information, support and opportunities that can shape their futures.

A day before South Africa commemorates Youth Day, Grade 10 to 12 learners from various schools gathered at Kopanong Secondary School in Kroonstad, Free State, for the NextGen Voices Career Expo to explore the possibilities that await them beyond school.

The expo created a space for learners to access career guidance, ask questions, and engage with institutions offering information on post-school education and training opportunities.

At its exhibition stand, Services SETA helped learners connect their career interests with practical pathways into further learning, skills development and the world of work.

For Katleho Morabe, a Grade 11 learner from Dr Reginald Cingo Comprehensive School, the expo offered more than information. It brought clarity.

“The career expo helped shape my direction and gave me a sense of belonging. Now I know what I will do after matric,” said Morabe, who hopes to become an architect.
For many learners, the day was a reminder that the choices they make now, from subjects to career interests, can open doors to the future they are working towards

Earlier today, the Services SETA participated in a Youth Empowerment and Career Guidance event held at Fons Luminis Secondary School in Diepkloof, Soweto. The event formed part of Youth Month activities held in commemoration of the 1976 Soweto Youth Uprising.

As part of the programme, Grade 11 and 12 learners were reminded of the significance of the 16 June 1976 uprising, a pivotal moment in South Africa’s history that contributed to the transformation of the country’s education landscape. The event also highlighted the importance of making education fashionable and encouraging young people to pursue academic excellence in honour of the legacy of the youth of 1976.

Learners were later introduced to various opportunities available beyond basic education. The Services SETA, alongside other post-school education and training (PSET) institutions, exhibited at the event and engaged learners on career pathways, skills development programmes and opportunities within the broader PSET sector.

The Services SETA, under the leadership of Administrator Mr. Lehlogonolo Masoga, participated in the two-day 66th Thought Leadership Forum hosted by the Global Alliance for the Project Professions from Tuesday, 9 June 2026 to Wednesday, 10 June 2026 at the Chesterfield Mayfair in London, United Kingdom.

Representing South Africa was the Administrator of Services SETA; Mr. Sibusiso Dhladhla, Acting CEO of the Services SETA; Mr. Tsheola Matsebe, Executive for Project Management Support at the Services SETA; and Mr. Sinaye Mgolombane, Chairman of Project Management South Africa and GAPPS Director.

The forum brought together global leaders from professional bodies, academia, certification authorities and government-linked organisations to explore the future of project professions, professionalisation and sustainable development.

“TLF66 adopted the pioneering global Organisational Project Management Capabilities framework, which will serve as a basis to inspire locally customised reforms,” said Administrator Masoga.

Through international collaboration and knowledge exchange, the Services SETA continues to strengthen its role in developing skills and competencies for a modern, competitive and project-driven economy.

🎙Delivering the keynote address at the Voter Education Campaign, Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mr Buti Manamela, encouraged young people, particularly first-time voters, to register and participate in the upcoming local government elections.

He emphasised that voting is a powerful way for citizens to influence decisions that affect their communities, including the delivery of essential services such as water, roads and electricity. The Minister urged young people to make their voices heard through democratic processes, stressing that participation is key to building stronger and more responsive communities.

“Register to vote and make your voice count. Through your vote, you have the power to shape the future of your community and contribute to the development of our country,” said Manamela.

Reflecting on South Africa’s democratic journey, the Minister called on young people to honour the sacrifices of those who fought for freedom and equality by using democratic institutions and civic participation to address societal challenges. He also encouraged the youth to reject violence, discrimination and division in all forms.

The Minister further highlighted the importance of post-school education and skills development opportunities available to young people, ensuring that attendees were informed about education, training and career pathways.

He concluded by calling on young people to play an active role in building an inclusive and prosperous South Africa for all.
