The Department of Water & Sanitation has called for public comments on draft regulations on FRAKING (affecting the use of water for the exploration, mining and production of onshore naturally occurring hydrocarbons requiring stimulation).

These regulations are called Regulations for the Use of Water for Exploration and Production of Onshore Naturally Occurring Hydrocarbons that Require Stimulation Including Hydraulic Fracturing and Underground Coal Gasification to Extract and any Activity Incidental Thereto that may Impact water security.

Once in force, the proposed new regulations will apply to all onshore exploration, mining and production operations dependant on controlled activities that may impact detrimentally on a water resource.

The deadline for input on the latest proposals is 13 January 2025.

Among other things, the new draft regulations deal with:

● applications and licensing

● prohibited and restricted areas and activities

● drilling, hydraulic fracturing additives and wastewater management

● well design and decommissioning, and

● disclosure.

BUSINESSMAN Thabiso Hamilton Ndlovu has been ordered to pay back 158 Million Rands and sentacened to 30 days in prison after unlawfully securing lucritive Covid-19 tenders worth 172 Million Rands.

Ndlovu's assets were frozen earlier this year.

VUT INVESTIGATED FOR CORRUPTION DATINING 2016 AND BEFORE

The South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has singed and Gazetted a proclamation on Vaal University of Technology - VUT VUT which orders Special Investigating Unit- South Africa SIU to investigate any corruption, maladministration; intentional damage to property and misappropriation of funds alleged against the university. As per the Proclamation the SIU is to investigate any unlawful or improper conduct which took place between 1 January 2016 and 08 November 2024 and any which took place prior January 2016

The investigation will put focus on two Contracts:
1. Services of refubishment of student residence during 2018 which amounts to 32 Million Rands
2. Campus Security and protection services during 2018 ( security tenders involving Maduna Security, SSG and Phiri Phiri)

The SIU will investigate any unlawful conduct by officials or employees of the university; service providers or suppliers of the University; or any other enity or person relating to the allegations.
