Friends of Linksfield Ridge

Friends of Linksfield Ridge The Linksfield Ridge offers outstanding views over Johannesburg, abundant bird life, and excellent trails for urban hiking.

But this amazing natural space has been neglected. Our goal is to 'reclaim the ridge' and make it safe and sustainable once again.

Joburg’s ridges are its defining feature and the Linksfield Ridge is one of our most magnificent. Take a winter walk with us along the iconic Linksfield Ridge through the Harvey Nature Reserve, with spectacular 360 degree views across Kensington and Orange Grove.

The winter landscape opens up the ridge, which features a wealth of bird and plant life, quirky historical stories, a geological heritage that goes back 3 billion years, and some of the best selfie opportunities in Joburg! You’ll also get the latest updates on our efforts to reclaim the ridge and make it more accessible to the people of Joburg.

Please note: this is a strenuous hike with several steep inclines and declines. It is only recommended for those who are moderately fit with full mobility. The total walking distance is about 5 kms.

Please bring hats, sunscreen, lots of water, snacks, and good hiking shoes or boots. As much as we love them, please don’t bring your dogs as this is a nature reserve.
