Respect Freedom!
We add a strong voice

Yesterday, the fabricated treason trial of Tundu Lissu resumed before the high court of Tanzania.

This is after 166 days wasted by state prosecutors as part of their tactical dalays to keep Lissu in prison dention for long.

We demand justice for Lissu.

YDUA is deeply concerned by the reported violence in Uije, Uige, Angola 🇦🇴 and stands in solidarity with all those affected.

We call for immediate medical assistance, an independent investigation, accountability for rights violations, and the protection of peaceful political participation.

As Angola prepares for the 2027 elections, democracy must be built on peace, political freedom, human dignity and respect for fundamental rights.

No political competition should ever come at the cost of human life.

END THE INJUSTICE IN UGANDA. RELEASE DR. KIZZA BESIGYE NOW!

The Young Democrats Union of Africa (YDUA) is outraged by the continued persecution of Uganda's foremost opposition leader, Dr. Kizza Besigye the Forum for Democratic Change 's former party president and 4-times Presidential candidate

After collapsing in the High Court on 29 July 2026 while protesting a sham trial that has denied him the fundamental right to legal counsel of his own choosing, now lies in the Intensive Care Unit at Mulago Hospital in Kampala unresponsive to painful stimuli under armed guard. Reports that his family is being denied access to their trusted physician are unacceptable and inhumane.

This is not justice. It is political persecution.

Dr. Besigye has been detained since November 2024 after being unlawfully seized outside Uganda and forcibly returned to face politically motivated treason charges. Bail has repeatedly been denied. His legal team has been systematically targeted—many lawyers expelled from the case like Counsel Martha Karua (from Kenya), others arrested like Counsel , another remanded like Counsel (also Former Kampala City Lord Mayor). These are the actions of a regime afraid of dissent, not a government committed to justice.

YDUA demands:
1. The immediate transfer of Dr. Besigye to a medical facility chosen by his family, with unrestricted access to independent doctors of his choice and family.
2. Immediate and unrestricted access for his family, legal team, and physicians.
3. His immediate and unconditional release, and the withdrawal of all politically motivated charges against him guided by his legal team
4. A full public account from the Ugandan authorities regarding his medical condition and the circumstances that led to this crisis.

The youth of Africa will not remain silent while democracy is strangled and human dignity is trampled. The continued detention of Dr. Besigye is an assault on justice, freedom, and the democratic values our continent must defend.

Uganda's leaders must understand: "you can imprison a man, but you cannot imprison the people's demand for freedom."

Signed: YDUA Executive Board.
