Understanding the Heart of a Fire Sprinkler System – The Pump House

A fire sprinkler pump house plays a critical role in ensuring a fire protection system operates effectively when needed most. It houses the pumps responsible for maintaining and delivering the required water pressure and flow to the sprinkler network.

🚒 Jockey Pump
The jockey pump is a small electric pump designed to maintain system pressure. It automatically compensates for minor pressure losses caused by temperature changes, small leaks, or testing activities, preventing unnecessary operation of the main fire pumps.

⚡ Electric Fire Pump
The electric fire pump serves as the primary duty pump. When the sprinkler system activates and system pressure drops significantly, the electric pump starts automatically to provide the required water flow and pressure to control or suppress the fire.

🔥 Diesel Fire Pump
The diesel fire pump acts as a reliable backup to the electric pump. In the event of a power failure or if the electric pump is unavailable, the diesel pump automatically starts to ensure uninterrupted fire protection. This redundancy is essential for maintaining life safety and property protection.

Together, these pumps form a critical line of defence, ensuring that water is available at the right pressure and flow rate whenever a fire emergency occurs.
