Tomorrow, Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Tasneem Motara, together with Emfuleni Executive Mayor Cllr Hassan Makoa, will return to Sebokeng Ext 28 for a Tea Session with beneficiaries.

When homes were handed over, the MEC committed to coming back to sit down with residents over tea and biscuits to hear first-hand how they are settling into their new homes, listen to their experiences and identify any matters requiring attention.

Building sustainable human settlements goes beyond handing over keys—it is about maintaining relationships with communities and ensuring beneficiaries continue to receive the support they need.

Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane, together with the MEC for Human Settlements in Gauteng, Tasneem Motara, will lead the department Title Deeds Restoration Programme in Mamelodi, one of the largest townships in the City of Tshwane, established in the 1950s after its occupants were forcefully removed from Lady Selbourne and Marabastad by the apartheid government using the policy of racial segregation.

📌 IMPUMELELO MEGA PROJECT EXT 5 LESEDI LOCAL MUNICIPALITY

YOUTH BUILD CLOSE-OUT | HOUSING AND TITLE DEEDS HANDOVER PROGRAMME

As part of the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the 1976 Youth Uprisings, the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC), in partnership with the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), trained sixty (60) young volunteers in various aspects of construction. Through the programme, participants gained practical experience by helping to build homes at the Impumelelo Mega Project, which will deliver approximately 6,824 housing units across different housing typologies.

The Youth Build initiative combines meaningful commemoration with practical empowerment by introducing young people to the construction sector, equipping them with critical technical skills, hands-on experience, and mentorship opportunities that prepare them for sustainable careers.

The housing and title deeds handover programme was led by Minister of Human Settlements Thembi Simelane, Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements Tasneem Motara, Sedibeng District Executive Mayor Cllr Lerato Maloka, Lesedi Local Municipality Executive Mayor Cllr Mluleki Nelson Nkosi, and NYDA Chairperson Dr Sunshine Minenhle Myende.
