It's like this:
*SANDF Special Forces (Recces)* and *SAPS Special Task Force (STF)* are two different worlds:
- *Recces = Military* - war, behind enemy lines, outside South Africa
- *SAPS STF = Police* - hostage rescue, high-risk arrests, inside South Africa
But they *HAVE to train together* for one big reason: *Counter-Terrorism inside SA.*
If there is a terrorist attack, plane hijack, embassy siege, or major hostage situation in South Africa, the law says SAPS STF is first to respond. But if it's too big for police, SANDF Special Forces takes over. So they must know how each other works.
*When they train together:*
1. *Counter-Terrorism exercises* - They do joint exercises for hijackings, building assaults, and hostage rescue. Like at airports, government buildings.
2. *Close Protection* - Sometimes when protecting the President or VIPs during high-risk events (like BRICS, elections), both STF and Special Forces operators are on duty.
3. *Selection help* - STF instructors sometimes go to Special Forces courses and vice versa. They share skills like sniping, breaching, close-quarter combat.
4. *Actual operations* - During things like the 2010 World Cup, or when tracking very dangerous wanted criminals in KZN or Eastern Cape, they have done joint operations where army provides tracking and perimeter, police STF does the entry.
They don't train together every day though. STF trains every day in Pretoria for police work. Recces train in isolation for war. They only link up for specific national security tasks.
So in short: *Different jobs, different bosses, but brothers when the country needs them.*
