Unsafe asbestos schools continue to threaten the health and safety of learners in the West Rand.
Hundreds of learners at Randfontein Secondary School and Toekomsrus Primary School are still forced to attend classes in dangerous asbestos structures years after national deadlines to remove them.
Despite R112 million allocated for upgrades at Randfontein Secondary, DA oversight found:

Incomplete admin block and bathrooms
Falling ceiling panels
Staircases without safety bars
Cracked and broken asbestos panels

Grade 8 classes have learner-to-teacher ratios of 1:50, and Grade 11 up to 1:73.
Sergio Isa Dos Santos MPL says this is outrageous. The DA will escalate the matter to Premier Lesufi for urgent intervention and hold those responsible accountable.
Our children deserve safe, dignified schools not crumbling asbestos structures that put their health at risk.

The abandoned pool in Duncanville tells the whole story of ANC failure. It's time for renewal. 💙

The neglected swimming pool in Duncanville stands as a symbol of everything that has gone wrong under the ANC in Emfuleni.

This was once a thriving community facility — a place where young people could learn to swim, develop their talents, and dream of competing at provincial, national, and even Olympic level. Today, years of neglect and mismanagement have left it to decay.

By allowing vital public infrastructure to collapse, the ANC has robbed our people of opportunity, recreation and community pride. Facilities that should be empowering our youth and keeping them active have instead become monuments of municipal failure.

The DA believes public facilities belong to the people. Under my leadership, facilities like this pool will be properly maintained, protected and restored — so that residents can benefit from them once again.

🏊 Our children deserve opportunities.
🏘️ Our communities deserve functioning facilities.
💰 Our ratepayers deserve value for money.

It's time to end the politics of decay and begin the work of renewal. Emfuleni deserves better.

Let's fix Emfuleni Municipality. Together. 🤝

Babita Deokaran gave her life exposing corruption. Gauteng Health can't even honour her memory. 🕯️

On 25 November last year, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature unanimously passed a DA motion calling on the Health Department to work with Babita's family to find a fitting way to honour her a named facility, a department, or a service award.

The six-month deadline to report back passed on 25 May. The result? Nothing.

According to her family, the Department has not even contacted them — despite Health MECs paying lip-service to her legacy when they supported the motion.

This is a disgrace. It defies the Legislature and shows utter contempt for the woman who exposed the looting of more than R2 billion from Tembisa Hospital.

Let's remember how this Department treated her:
🔹 Suspended her on false charges for six months while she was alive
🔹 Then-CFO Lerato Madyo covered up her call for a forensic audit
🔹 Madyo was never disciplined she was allowed to resign with a secret payout the Department still refuses to disclose

The DA will write to the Speaker to censure the Health MEC and Acting HOD for defying a binding motion — and we will keep fighting for a memorial that honours Babita's wishes and her family.

The people of Gauteng deserve a Health Department that respects both the Legislature and the memory of those who sacrificed everything.

Do you stand for accountability? Share this post and honour Babita's legacy. 🙏

ANC's Ekurhuleni coalition can't even pass its own budget. 🚩

While in charge of the City, the ANC-led coalition has plunged Ekurhuleni's financial future into chaos. This week in Council, the ANC walked out after only two people had voted, and their proxy Speaker adjourned proceedings to seek "legal advice" on how to vote — on their own budget.

This isn't governance. It's a coalition of corruption that has lost control of its own processes, leaving residents without certainty when they need it most.

And the budget on the table? It hits your pocket hard:
💧 11% increase on water
⚡ 9% increase on electricity
🚽 8.3% increase on sanitation

Residents are being asked to pay more, only to watch their hard-earned money squandered through corruption, wasteful expenditure and endless outages.

A strong DA government will always put residents first and deliver responsible, accountable governance.

Do you agree it's time for change in Ekurhuleni? Share this post and let us know in the comments. 👇

Gauteng broadband rollout in crisis committee launches probe into major delays.
The Gauteng Department of e-Government is once again under fire for failing to meet connectivity targets for WAN, LAN and public WiFi infrastructure.

Despite claiming 84% overall performance, critical broadband projects meant to connect communities, schools and government services are falling behind.
The Portfolio Committee has now launched a focused intervention study to uncover why these delays continue.

Michael Waters MPL says this is another example of poor planning and mismanagement under the ANC-led government.
Residents deserve reliable digital infrastructure not endless excuses and missed targets.
The DA will keep holding the department accountable.

South Africa has a gun problem and it is hurting all of us.
The latest analysis confirms what Gauteng residents experience every day: fi****ms are fuelling violent crime, robberies, murders and trauma across the province.
While the ANC government talks, criminals with illegal guns continue to terrorise communities, businesses and families.
Crezane Bosch MPL and the DA demand urgent, practical action:
• Stronger border control to stop illegal fi****ms
• Better intelligence and visible policing
• Faster prosecution of gun-related crimes
Gauteng cannot afford more empty promises. The DA is the only party with a clear plan to make our streets safer.

MEC Ramakgopa continues to fail Gauteng farmers by underspending the budget.
The department spent only 66.5% of its allocated budget and 76% of conditional grants in the 2025/26 financial year.
This means:
• Zero disaster relief schemes delivered
• Zero of six planned agricultural infrastructure projects completed
• Only 85 green jobs created instead of 200
While farmers battle the Foot-and-Mouth Disease crisis, infrastructure shortages and disasters, millions remain unspent due to weak planning and slow procurement.
Bronwynn Engelbrecht MPL says this is unacceptable. The DA will keep pressuring MEC Ramakgopa to spend the budget effectively and deliver real support to farmers.
Gauteng’s agricultural future cannot be weakened by underspending and poor delivery.

Patients endure over a year of agony due to surgery delays at Tambo Memorial Hospital.
Despite promises in March that operating theatre renovations would be finished in two months, the Gauteng Health Department now says elective surgeries will only resume in June 2027.
One desperate patient awaiting a hip replacement lives in constant excruciating pain, virtually confined to her home. She was coldly told to “just accept it”.

Madeleine Hicklin MPL says this is cruel and unacceptable. The DA will write to Premier Lesufi demanding urgent intervention and proper referral pathways for patients from Boksburg, Benoni and Germiston.

Our public healthcare system cannot continue failing patients like this.

Gauteng residents still unsafe despite Premier Lesufi’s R459 million Amapanyaza spending spree.
Over the past four years, the Gauteng Provincial Government has spent R459 million on training, travel, accommodation and deployment of the controversial Gauteng Traffic Wardens (Amapanyaza).

Yet crime continues to spiral, with Gauteng recording an average of 27 kidnappings per day.
Michael Sun MPL says this massive expenditure raises serious questions about value for money and impact.

The DA demands stronger management, clear operational mandates and measurable performance targets for the Amapanyaza so residents can see real improvements in safety.
Gauteng deserves better than expensive political gimmicks we need effective crime-fighting solutions.
