City of Joburg

City of Joburg A World Class African City. These are just a few of the diverse features boasted by a city which some 5.9 million people call home.

Johannesburg, Joburg, eGoli, Mjiba, Joeys, Jozi – it’s impossible not to marvel at how fast this mighty metropolis sprang up on the Highveld plains in 1886 and has continued to play a pivotal role in our country’s history and economy. Johannesburg is one of the world’s youngest major cities, the only one not settled on a major waterway or bay – as well as being home to the world’s largest man-made forest and fabulous weather.

Honoring history through action. ✊🏌️‍♂️

To mark 50 years since the 1976 Youth Uprising, The City, led by MMC for Community Development Thapelo Amad, brought together young talent, business leaders, and mentors at the Wanderers Golf Club for the first-ever Golf4Change Invitational.

The results? Our youth swept the top spots! A massive shoutout to Ompile Selepe and Tebogo Lefifi for taking home the big wins.

As MMC Amad put it: "A conversation can become a mentorship, a mentorship can become an internship, and an internship can become employment."

Check out the full highlights and see how Joburg is driving youth economic empowerment:

Equally as important as vehicle roads is the public environment built for foot traffic. Through the Orange Farm Turnkey Programme, dedicated investments into Non-Motorised Transport (NMT) mean wider paved sidewalks, universal accessibility ramps, safe crossings, and upgraded lighting to create secure, inclusive spaces.
