Today, we celebrate Dagmar Muhlbauer Roets and Sharona Leigh De Klerk the two women of Rescue South Africa whose skills, strength, commitment and heart form part of what makes our mission possible.

From the field to the office, they get things done ,however getting them in the same place, at the same time is a mission on its own! So, for this one… AI understood the assignment.

Part 2 of Rescue South Africa participation in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Regional Cyclone and Flood Response Simulation Exercise (SIMEX), held in Nacala, Mozambique, from 27–31 July 2026.

Rescue South Africa was proud to participate in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Regional Cyclone and Flood Response Simulation Exercise (SIMEX), held in Nacala, Mozambique, from 27–31 July 2026.

As part of Rescue South Africa's commitment to strengthening regional disaster preparedness, our leadership team—** Aidan Justus Connor Hartnady, Travis Trower, and Dagmar Muhlbauer Roets **—joined disaster management authorities, humanitarian organisations, emergency responders, and technical specialists from across Southern Africa and the international community.

The five-day exercise tested regional early warning systems, emergency coordination mechanisms, rapid deployment procedures, and multi-agency interoperability through a simulated large-scale cyclone and flood disaster affecting multiple SADC Member States. It also provided a valuable platform to exchange operational experience, strengthen partnerships, and enhance regional response capabilities.

As climate-related disasters continue to increase in frequency and severity across Southern Africa, initiatives such as SIMEX are vital in improving preparedness, fostering cross-border collaboration, and ensuring a more effective and coordinated response when disasters occur. Rescue South Africa remains committed to working alongside regional and international partners to build stronger, more resilient emergency response systems.

This vehicle represents more than just transport - it strengthens our ability to deliver specialist rescue training, support community training initiatives, and respond to emergencies in Gqeberha.

Rescue South Africa CEO recently spoke to about the ongoing efforts to locate missing persons following the recent earthquake in Venezuela.

During the interview, Aidan shared insight into the realities of international disaster response, including the critical "window of survival" in the first few days, the challenges survivors face as access to food, water and medical care becomes limited, and how international deployment works for organisations like Rescue South Africa.

As an NGO, Rescue South Africa can only deploy internationally when formally requested through the appropriate government and international channels. This ensures coordinated, effective support where it is needed most.

He also highlighted the importance of being fully self-sufficient, enabling rescue teams to operate independently in complex and often inaccessible disaster zones.

Rescue South Africa recently joined forces once again with SAPS Search & Rescue, Metro Search & Rescue, NSRI ,15 Squadron SAAF, and members of the K9 Search and Rescue Association of South Africa for another joint operational training session.

This time, the focus was on reinforcing the fundamentals of helicopter rescue operations using the A109 platform, building confidence, communication, and coordination across teams in realistic operational scenarios.

Strong foundations are essential in high-pressure environments, and training like this ensures that multiple rescue disciplines can work seamlessly together when every second matters.
