As we commemorate Youth Day, we honour the brave young people of 16 June 1976, who marched through the streets of Soweto and across our country in pursuit of justice, dignity, and a better future. Their bravery shaped the history of our province and altered the course of South Africa's journey towards democracy.

Today, Gauteng stands as the nationโ€™s economic and social hub, built on the foundations laid by the 1976 generation who refused to accept inequality and oppression. As we reflect on their legacy, we are reminded that the responsibility of building a prosperous, inclusive and innovative society now rests with today's youth.

Youth is not just a time of lifeโ€”itโ€™s a time of possibility. This Monday, remember that every great achievement began with someone willing to learn, grow and take the first step.

This Youth Month, we honour the legacy of the young people who fought for freedom and celebrate the youth who continue to drive change, innovation, and progress in our communities.

The theme, "Our National Commitment to the Future, for Freedom Lives in Every Generation," reminds us that the responsibility to protect and advance the freedoms won by previous generations belongs to us all. By investing in our youth today, we are building a stronger, more inclusive South Africa for tomorrow.

๐Ÿ“ St Ansgarโ€™s Combined School, Randburg

The A-Team recently conducted a site inspection at St Ansgarโ€™s Combined School to monitor progress on the ongoing infrastructure upgrades aimed at creating a safer and more conducive learning environment.

Current works include the replacement of asbestos classrooms with mobile classrooms, refurbishment of existing facilities, construction of a new ablution block, parking areas, electrical rewiring, and stormwater and sewer infrastructure upgrades.

Construction is progressing, with site establishment completed, retaining walls constructed, stormwater and sewer installations underway, and concrete platforms for new mobile classrooms being cast. Materials for the new classrooms are already on site and ready for assembly.

Key issues requiring attention include quality concerns on some finishes and electrical installations, securing relocated mobile classrooms, and accelerating the construction of plinths to allow learners to be moved from existing asbestos classrooms.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ Bafeti LSEN School Upgrade Progress Update | Mabopane

The team conducted a site inspection at Bafeti LSEN School, where the renovation and expansion project has reached 76.5% completion.

Current work includes painting, installation of sanitary fittings, electrical distribution boards, HVAC and fire protection systems, LP gas infrastructure, walkways, landscaping, sports facilities, and fire water hydrants.

Key issues requiring attention include incorrectly anchored roof trusses at several blocks, the relocation of an electrical distribution board at Block E to improve safety and accessibility, and delays that have pushed the project beyond its scheduled completion date. Concerns were also raised regarding non-compliant asbestos ceiling removal, which presents a health and safety risk.

The contractor has been instructed to improve housekeeping, address quality concerns, and accelerate outstanding work, including civil works, electrical infrastructure, walkways, and building finishes.

Once completed, the project will provide improved learning facilities and a safer environment for learners and educators.

๐Ÿซ Nancefield Primary School Upgrade Nearing Completion!

The A-Team recently conducted a site inspection at Nancefield Primary School in Eldorado Park to monitor progress on the school's infrastructure upgrades.

The project has now reached 95% completion, with teams hard at work on the final stages of construction. Ongoing activities include landscaping, installation of security systems, clear view fencing, rainwater goods, roof coverings for walkways, and final electrical works.

Key outstanding work includes completing the school hall, network installations, walkways, perimeter walls, gates, and other finishing touches that will enhance the learning environment for learners and educators.

While progress remains positive, challenges such as rainy weather, outstanding payments to some SMMEs, and the completion of critical safety systems continue to be closely monitored.

We remain committed to ensuring that all remaining work is completed to the required standard, delivering a safe, modern, and functional learning environment for the Nancefield Primary School community.
