WHAT IS I-SIZE?
Car seat rules can be confusing, so Europe introduced i-Size (UN R129) to make things simpler and safer for parents. Instead of relying on age or weight, i-Size uses your child’s height to help you choose the right seat, something every parent can measure easily.

WHY I-SIZE MATTERS
đź©· Rearward-facing travel is required until at least 15 months.
đź©· Height-based fit means less guesswork and a safer match for your child.
đź©· Stricter safety tests, including better side-impact protection.

With i-Size, you know your car seat has been designed and tested to meet the latest safety standards.

đźš— BUY IN SEPTEMBER. WIN WITH MAXI-COSI & KELSTON!
This September, buying a Kelston family vehicle could mean more than just a new ride - it could mean winning a Maxi-Cosi Car Seat to the value of R10 000.

As proud sponsors of Child Passenger Safety Week (20 – 26 September), Maxi-Cosi and Kelston are joining forces to raise awareness of the importance of using the right child car seat at every stage of their little one’s journey - from rearward-facing seats in the early years to booster seats as they grow.

Because every journey is part of the future we’re helping protect.

From 20 – 26 September, Maxi-Cosi proudly sponsors Child Passenger Safety Week: “Back Their Future. Buckle Up.” This year, we’re focusing on the important milestones in your child’s car seat journey - from keeping little ones rearward-facing for longer to knowing when they’re ready for a booster seat.

Because every stage matters.

Every journey matters — whether it’s a quick trip to school, a visit to the shops, or a family road trip.

This September, we’re proud to support Child Passenger Safety Week, 20–26 September 2026, and remind parents and caregivers that the right car seat, the right fit and correct installation can make all the difference.

Take a moment to check:
• Is your child in the right car seat for their age, height and weight?
• Is the seat correctly installed?
• Are the harness straps fitted snugly and correctly?
• Is everyone buckled up on every journey?

Let’s buckle up, check twice and make every journey a safer one.

Child Passenger Safety: Keep an eye on your little passenger.

When your baby is travelling rear-facing, a back seat car mirror can help you keep a clear view of them without turning around while driving.

A good-quality, crash-tested mirror should offer the following:
✔️ Wide-angle view
✔️ Adjustable positioning for the perfect angle
✔️ Secure attachment to the headrest
✔️ Quick and easy installation

Because knowing you can see your little one can make every journey feel a little easier.
A small accessory that can make a big difference on the road.

When is it time to move to the next car seat?

When it comes to car seats, bigger doesn’t always mean better. Maxi-Cosi recommends keeping your little one in their current stage for as long as they fit within its limits.

👶 Baby → Toddler
Keep your baby in their rear-facing baby car seat for as long as possible.

It’s time to move up when the top of their head reaches the top of the seat back. Don’t worry if their legs extend beyond the edge of the seat — this alone doesn’t mean they’ve outgrown it.

🧒 Toddler → Child
It’s time for the next stage when your child’s shoulders are 2 cm above the highest shoulder-strap openings, with the headrest in its highest position.

When moving to a group 2/3 seat, set the new seat’s headrest to its lowest position before securing your child.

đźš— When do they no longer need a car seat?
This depends on local laws and your child’s height. Once they no longer require a child restraint, they should always use the vehicle’s three-point seat belt correctly.

The golden rule: don’t rush the next stage. Keep your little one rear-facing and in each car-seat stage for as long as they fit safely within the seat’s limits.

🎒 Back to School Means Back to Safe Journeys! 🚗

The holidays are almost over, and it's time to get back into the school routine. As you prepare lunchboxes, uniforms, and school bags, don't forget the most important part of the journey—your child's safety in the car.

If your child is between 15 months and 12 years old, using the correct car seat or high-back booster isn't optional—it's one of the best ways to help protect them on every trip.

Remember:
• Every journey matters, even if it's just around the corner.
• Make sure your child is securely buckled up every single time.
• If your child travels with an au pair, grandparent, family member, or friend, ensure they also use the correct car seat.
• With busy roads and unexpected traffic caused by load shedding, being properly restrained is more important than ever.

Because accidents don't only happen on long trips—they can happen just minutes from home.

Buckle up. Every child. Every ride. Every time.

The best car seat is one that fits your child, fits your car(s) and is easy to install and to use. Here are some useful tips and recommendations to help you decide.

đźš— Child Passenger Safety: i-Size (UN R129) in Short đźš—

đźš—i-Size is the latest European car seat safety standard designed to better protect children during travel.

🚗It requires rearward-facing travel up to at least 15 months for added head and neck safety and uses a child’s height (rather than weight or age) to ensure a more accurate and secure fit as they grow.

đźš—Car seats are designed for specific height ranges, making it easier for parents to choose the right seat and transition safely through each stage. Compared to older standards, i-Size offers improved overall safety performance.

đź’› Safer, simpler, and more precise protection for every journey.
