💰 *PIC’s R432 million Lanseria investment under scrutiny*

The DA wants Parliament to investigate how the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) lost hundreds of millions of rands through an investment linked to Lanseria Airport.

The PIC manages investments on behalf of major public funds, including those responsible for government pensions and the UIF.

The latest controversy involves a reported R432 million payout to BEE company Acapulco. While the matter has reportedly been referred to the SIU, the DA says that cannot replace accountability before Parliament.

The questions are simple: What happened, who is responsible, and how will the money be recovered?

📚 *Textbook battle escalates*

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to intervene after the Director-General of Basic Education reportedly gave the go-ahead for the new Foundation Phase textbook catalogue.

This follows an independent investigation that identified serious problems with the process and Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube’s decision to halt it.

Hill-Lewis says the President must either intervene directly or give Gwarube the authority needed to hold the Director-General accountable, including the power to suspend him.

🗳️ *ANC candidate-list problems deepen*

President Cyril Ramaphosa says the ANC may approach the Electoral Court after the party failed to submit complete candidate lists in three provinces.

The IEC says there was nothing wrong with its submission system, despite the ANC blaming technical difficulties.

ANC candidates are reportedly missing from some contests across around seven municipalities, including Mangaung Metro, with problems affecting the Free State, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

With elections approaching, administrative mistakes can have very real political consequences.

🚔 Police leadership under pressure
Suspended Crime Intelligence deputy chief General Feroz Khan has been dismissed from the SAPS after failing to attend a disciplinary hearing.

Meanwhile, two Flying Squad officers in Gqeberha reportedly had to use their own vehicles to follow up on a tip-off that led to the seizure of illegal weapons — because no operational police vehicles were available. Despite the challenges, there are still dedicated officers determined to do their jobs.

🏗️ Failed contractors — but no blacklist?
The DA in Gauteng has revealed that the ANC-led provincial government does not have a blacklist of companies that repeatedly fail to deliver infrastructure projects. Instead, service providers are merely being “recommended for restriction”, while action remains outstanding.

🏫 Gauteng schools owe municipalities R117 million
Another DA Legislature question has exposed the financial pressure facing public schools, with some already experiencing electricity disconnections and water restrictions.

The DA is calling for an urgent province-wide assessment and a comprehensive plan to protect schools from further service cuts.

Accountability matters. Basic services matter. Good government matters.

Three stories worth watching today 👇

🔵 “Vote ANC because we have comrades in government”?

President Cyril Ramaphosa claimed in the ANC’s local government manifesto that ANC-run municipalities would have an advantage because their mayors can turn to “a comrade” in national government.

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis hit back, saying this goes against both the reality and the spirit of the Government of National Unity.

After decades of broken promises and failing municipalities, South Africans deserve capable local government — not a system where service delivery depends on who your political “comrades” are.

⚖️ DA takes action against delinquent municipal managers

DA Parliamentary Leader George Michalakis continued his nationwide campaign to lay criminal charges against some of the country’s worst-performing municipal managers.

Today he was in the Free State, laying charges against the municipal managers of Masilonyana, Nketoana and Maluti-A-Phofung for alleged contraventions of the Municipal Finance Management Act.

Municipal officials entrusted with public money must be held accountable.

🚜 What is the Land Bank hiding?

The Land Bank has failed to respond within the statutory 30-day period to a DA PAIA request seeking bank statements and financial records dating back to 2012.

The DA wants answers about money generated through the liquidation and forced sale of farmers’ assets — and whether those funds were properly deposited and accounted for.

If everything was lawful and properly accounted for, producing the records should not be a problem.

The DA has now submitted a formal complaint to the Information Regulator.

💙 Accountability matters. Competence matters. And South Africans deserve governments that work — regardless of who their “comrades” are.
