The National Health Insurance (NHI) is a financing system that will make sure that all citizens of South Africa (and legal long-term residents) are provided with essential healthcare, regardless of their employment status and ability to make a direct monetary contribution to the NHI Fund.
Why does South Africa need national health insurance? Healthcare is a human right – this is a widely accepted international principle. This right should not depend on how rich we are or where we happen to live. The right to obtain healthcare is written into our Constitution.

But large numbers of our people continue to die prematurely and to suffer unnecessarily from poor health. Treatable conditions are not being treated on time and preventable diseases are not being prevented.

This is in spite of the fact that government has tried its utmost since 1994 to ensure that everyone in this country has equitable access to necessary healthcare services. There are still serious challenges mainly caused by a skewed healthcare financing system. Without NHI, the burden of disease in the country will not be reduced because the majority of the population – and the section suffering the greatest ill health – will not access good quality healthcare.

What healthcare services will be funded by NHI?
The NHI will offer all South Africans and legal residents access to a defined package of comprehensive health services. The state is committed to offering as wide a range of services as possible.

Dial *134*1994*844 # in support of NHI and follow instructions please. It’s free of charge and takes only a minute.

Let’s support the NHI Bill good People,it’s closing on the 28th of November..

You have made me proud, Zuma tells NMB ANC

Port Elizabeth – You have made me happy, you have made me proud, President Jacob Zuma told the ANC in Port Elizabeth on Sunday.

Armed with his signature giggle and endless praise, an excited Zuma has thrown his weight behind the newly elected regional leadership in Nelson Mandela Bay.

He praised the ANC in the region for electing young leadership.

They did not just elect balding and grey leaders, he said.

"We look at the quality of the person, you look at the energy of the person. We look at the consistency of the person. In other words, we choose the leader because we have explained how," he said.

A leader they could say was going to make them deliver, he said to rousing applause in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Zuma said he had been passing by, when he decided to make a stop at the congress.

What was important, he said, was that everyone accepts the decision of the congress.

Members needed to make a contribution to strengthening the organisation and leave it stronger.

Sometimes, members forgot that.

"It gets to a point when a member saw themselves as more important than the party, and they wanted people to do things their way," he said.

That was evident during disputes when people did not focus on policies but small things, "Where a person views themselves as the boss, like they were born a leader".

Zuma said he was especially excited about the fact the result was amicable, as this was his last year as a leader of the ANC, with only two years left as president of the country.

"I am no longer young, though I am not yet ancient."

He said he would remain an ANC member until the day he died.

He was excited about being able to say what he wanted, when he wanted, when he retired, he said.

When he retired, he would not accept any salary, or petrol money from the ANC as a volunteer.

The last time he had been in Nelson Mandela Bay, he said, was to intervene in factions.

"Now, am leaving happy. It has been a wonderful moment for me," he said.

Meeting with the ANC Officials

As a disciplined ANCYL Communication Su-Committee it gives us a great pleasure to officially inform all the ANCYL members and leaders across our Region that today marks a historic milestone in our term of office as mandated by the Regional Congress to lead the ANCYL during the period of repositioning and rebuilding of the youth league.

As it was communicated that the duly elected Regional structure was disbanded without any substantive reasons whatsoever, it is our view that we should write this official communique and inform all our members of the youth league in good standing that today (05/12/2016) we were invited by the ANC officials at the Headquarters of the ANC to further substantiate our claims in contesting the unlawful disbandment of our Region which has done so much in implementing its resolutions as guided by the Regional Congress. We are optimistic that the irrational decision of disbanding our structure was unfortunate and unorganisational. It is within this background that in the failure of the ANCYL NEC to follow correct processes to institute any disciplinary measures we had to appeal to the ANC as an umbrella body our structure and we are confident that our appeal has reached the highest level of sober leadership consciousness of our ANC Officials and we believe that errors and mistakes committed by the ANCYL NEC will be reversed and hoping that we will be given that task to take the branches of the youth league to their expected Regional Congress.

We request all the interim placed structures to continue with their work until an official outcomes of the meeting with the ANC NEC Officials is communicated to all of us. We remain principled and disciplined throughout this process as we have committed to place ourselves in line with the ideals of the youth league and remind all of us that the ANCYL is indeed a preparatory school of political thoughts within the ANC.

FOR IMMEDIETE RELEASE:
08 August 2016
RE: ANCYL KZN supports the ANCYLTreasurer General, Cde Reggie Nkabinde
The African National Congress Youth League in KwaZulu Natal is in full support of Cde Reggie Nkabinde, the Treasurer General of the ANCYL after being attacked by the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters, Jullius Malema.
The Youth League holds a view that young people must participate and led all sectors, particularly the business sector in order for them to create jobs and contribute to a South Africa envisaged by the Freedom Charter which remains our ultimate program. We therefore dismiss, with the contempt that it deserves, the personal insult directed to our Treasurer-General, Cde Regie Nkabinde suggesting that Mabala Noise is public funded project that is aimed at looting government coffers. To us, this attack is aimed at distracting a young man who has entered the entertainment space and made a difference. This attack is about demonizing a black child who has worked hard to prosper.
The Youth League is concerned that the unexplainable weight loss of Julius has affected his mental ability and we therefore appeal to our Ministers of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi and Minister of Social Development, Minister Bathabile Dlamini, to intervene in the matter of this fellow's health and well being so as to rescue him from self-destruction. No person in their right mind can attack a young black man for prospering.
Our call for economic freedom in our lifetime can only be achieved through a concerted and resolute effort from all young people, to claim their space in the societal eating tables and we call on all young people to reject elements like Julius Malema, who want to reduce our struggles to individuals in order to advance their personal vendettas against the African National Congress in general.
Cde Regie Nkabinde remains one of our own and we will always defend him against any counter-revolutionary agents who seek to dominate the public limelight through insulting us.

That narrative is narrow minded and seeks to undermine the fact that President Zuma's pro base provinces have performed above the average including in KZN. It is improper to for you or anyone of us to quickly point fingers and bring wrong analysis of why we did not perform very well in this local government election on the basis of Zuma. The underlying challenges of the ANC not to perform are attributed and contributed to various issues, yes may be fewer electorates in Gauteng, WC and parts of the EC can say something different done your fallacy of blaming an individual. Did you make a scientific analysis or it is just another white dominated lying propaganda perpetuated by those who hate Zuma and anything good the ANC does or do? let us correct and educate one another here; the ANC didn't do well simply because of the following reasons; Numsa expulsion, Vavi's resignation, Malema expulsion, lower voter turn out in our strongholds, Sputla v/s Mapiti issue, the manner of ward based councillor issue handling, weather condition, people's entitlement position, private and public entities failure of filling posts, ANC campaign and Mbeki failure to weigh his support for the ANC and other factors that we will need to be honest internally as the ANC to agree about so our view now is that those who have casted their vote did so consciously even if it was to despise us it is still within their right to do so, yes we will continue to say our members and leaders must be humble before ordinary people as we are a leader of society!

I used to hold high standards for this one of Shadrack B.O Gutto who said to be a Proff but his hate of the ANC and of President Zuma is vivid and dangerous as a UNISA student I am very disappointed in his analysis of our current democratic era under the ANC, who shipped him to lead us in one of our progressive learning institution surely by accent he is not a South African!

JOHANNESBURG – The African National Congress (ANC) Gauteng chairperson Paul Mashatile says the provincial party won’t be begging anymore for former President Thabo Mbeki to help the party campaign for next week’s elections .
Mashatile spoke to Eyewitness News on the sidelines of President Jacob Zuma’s address at Thokoza Park in Soweto yesterday.
The Gauteng ANC has managed to get the support of ANC stalwarts such as Mavuso Msimang, Tokyo Sexwale and Ahmed Kathrada.
But Mbeki still hasn’t heeded the provincial party’s request for him to assist.
Mashatile says they have now accepted he won’t be helping.
“I think we’re fine. If more people come, good, but I think we’re fine. Mr. Mbeki indicated that he’s still a good member in good standing and for us that’s enough.”
Last week, Mashatile said he believed Mbeki’s help would aid the party to garner more support for the province.
'MBEKI MUST PUT DIFFERENCES ASIDE'
Last week, Msimang and Sexwale said Mbeki has a responsibility to campaign for the party regardless of his differences with the leadership.
Following reports that Mbeki’s family distanced itself from the ANC, the former president sent out a statement saying he remains an ANC member in good standing.
But he did not give any indication that he will heed the party’s Gauteng’s request for him to campaign for the party.
Sexwale said Mbeki owes it to the ANC to campaign.
“He was born in the family of the ANC, it made him deputy president, it made him president of the ANC and it made him president of the country. At this stage we have a lot to give back to the ANC.”
Msimang said the former president must do the right thing.
“Everyone who claims to be ANC regardless of difficulties we might have a responsibility to come out and support the ANC.”

The ANC failed to unite in defending President Jacob Zuma's Nkandla debacle compared to how it protected former president Thabo Mbeki when reports emerged that millions were spent to finance his retirement home.
Cosatu affiliate Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union said when reports emerged in 2006 that R22-million had been spent to build a retirement home for Mbeki in Riviera, Johannesburg, there were never calls for the public protector and state agencies to investigate how taxpayers' money had been spent.

The union (Popcru), now one of Cosatu's biggest affiliates, wanted to know "who are these members of the ANC who call for his [Zuma's] resignation.

"The majority of them never liked him while some hated him passionately," Popcru general secretary Nathi Theledi said in a report delivered at the union's central executive committee meeting held between July 15 and 17.

'Thabo Mbeki has a responsibility to campaign for the ANC': Sexwale

Theledi said although they were not Zuma's praise singers, the ANC failed to present a united face in defending Zuma on Nkandla, which was not the "first disgrace that South Africa faced regarding presidential homes".

"It is worth noting that the ANC put up a united front at the time to defend and protect its president Mbeki. This contrasts with the divided set of responses that have come out of the party this time around on Nkandla," said Theledi.

The ANC in Gauteng had always differed with many in the party's national executive committee, saying Zuma had to take responsibility and resign over Nkandla.

Theledi emphasised there was no doubt that things went terribly wrong with how money was spent on Nkandla and that they would not be blinded by Zuma's errors.

He, however, took issue with what the union saw as hypocrisy on the reaction to Nkandla and Mbeki's retirement home.

"Does it mean it was right then to build a private property at escalating costs but it is wrong today? What is different today from what happened in 2006?

"Is this not hypocrisy or double standards on similar matters by different individuals at different times?"

Yesterday Mbeki's spokesman, Mukoni Ratsh*tanga, said they did not need to respond to Popcru's statements.

"We will respond if anybody who suggests we respond provides us with facts to persuade us we should respond," he said.

PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma has extended a warm welcome to all international delegates who are attending the International AIDS Conference, which will take place in Durban from Monday.
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa‚ the chairman of the South African National Aids Council‚ will officially open the conference on Monday evening and will officiate at the conference on behalf of the government.
Zuma is currently attending the 27th Ordinary Session of African Union Summit in Kigali‚ Rwanda.
"We are pleased that the international community has chosen our country to host this conference again‚" the president said in the statement.
He also welcomed UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon and former heads of state and government in the Southern African Development Community.
READ THIS: What top scientists want to do to halt the AIDS epidemic
"We are also pleased to host several international leaders in the entertainment‚ business‚ labour and other fields who are joining governments to take stock and further advance the fight against HIV and AIDS forward‚’’ he said.
Zuma said South Africa has been making progress in its response to the disease since a policy turnaround in 2009.
On December 1 2009‚ Zuma announced that the country would launch a massive campaign to mobilise all South Africans to get tested for HIV.
The campaign resulted in more than 20-million people being tested.
During that campaign‚ Zuma said all children under one year of age would get treatment if they tested positive in order to reduce infant mortality over time and that all patients with both TB and HIV would get treatment with antiretrovirals if their CD4 count was 350 or less.
"Indeed the rate of mother to child transmission of the virus has been drastically reduced."

Zuma also said that before December 2009‚ treatment was available when the CD4 count was less than 200.
"These interventions and further work done over the years have yielded results."
He said the quality of life of people living with HIV had improved dramatically since this policy turnaround in 2009.
"HIV positive persons are living longer and lead healthier lives‚ thanks to wider access to treatment. South Africa has significantly reduced the mother-to-child transmission of HIV‚ thus ensuring healthier babies."
He said more work still needed to be done to take the campaign forward.
"Government recently launched Phila‚ a massive HIV prevention campaign targeted primarily at young women and girls."
Zuma said a focus on HIV prevention was important for the country‚ towards the goal of an HIV-free generation.
Zuma said the South African delegation‚ under the leadership of Ramaphosa‚ would share lessons from the progress made‚ and also learn from other delegations on what they could be doing better.
"More importantly‚ the conference begins on Nelson Mandela Day.
"It provides an opportunity to pay tribute to Madiba for the role he played in advancing the fight against AIDS and promoting care and support for those infected and affected."
The conference ends on Friday.
