SMME's Opportunities

Opportunities for SMMEs through SANRAL Projects
Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) in the Koukamma municipal area can benefit from projects undertaken by the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL), particularly road construction, rehabilitation, maintenance and infrastructure upgrades.

These projects can create opportunities for local businesses, promote job creation, develop local contractors and stimulate economic growth in communities such as Kareedouw, Joubertina, Louterwater, Krakeel, Misgund and surrounding areas.

The Mayor of Koukamma Municipality,
Cllr Sam Vuso introduce Hydrotec, a contractor appointed to undertake the upgrading of the Joubertina Wastewater Treatment Works. The project forms part of the Municipality’s ongoing efforts to improve the reliability, functionality and efficiency of wastewater treatment infrastructure within the Joubertina community.

The wastewater treatment works plays an important role in protecting public health and the environment by treating wastewater before it is safely discharged.

The contractor will undertake the necessary rehabilitation, repairs, upgrades and associated works to improve the condition and performance of the treatment plant.

The upgrading of the Joubertina Wastewater Treatment Works is expected to have a positive long-term impact on the community and the surrounding environment.

Koukamma Municipality hereby informs all residents and customers that cash payments will no longer be accepted at Municipal paying points.

Residents are requested to make use of the available alternative payment methods when settling municipal accounts and other payments.

SINOVUYO TOYI SET TO REPRESENT KOUKAMMA AT NATIONAL SPELLING BEE FINALS IN CAPE TOWN

She began her spelling journey in 2024 as a Grade 5 learner at Woodlands Primary School, where she was crowned the School Champion. In 2025, she travelled to Gqeberha (PE) to participate at the next level and received a Certificate of Recognition for her achievement.
In 2026, she once again emerged as the School Champion and proceeded to compete at the Regional Competition in Jeffreys Bay, where she successfully advanced to the Provincial level and subsequently qualified for the National Competition.
She will proudly represent her school, Woodlands Primary School and Koukamma community at the National Competition on 3 October 2026 in Cape Town.

SPECIAL VOTE APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!

Applications for special votes for the 2026 Local Government Elections open on 21 September, and close 12 October 2026 at 17h00.

A special vote allows an eligible registered voter who cannot vote at their voting station on Election Day, 4 November, to cast their ballot before Election Day.

Who can apply? Registered voters:
- Living with Disability
- Pregnant Women
- Elderly People
- Work-related commitments
