GOODS CONFISCATED DURING A BY-LAWS CLEAN UP OPERATION – IN THE BENONI AREA

BENONI – On Tuesday 28 July 2026 between 10:00 and 13:00, the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) By-law Compliance and Enforcement Unit Officers, conducted a clean-up operation at Voortrekker Road and goods were confiscated from unregistered hawkers, in the Benoni area.

The intensive blitz clean-up operations that are being conducted by the Officers in different regions of the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE). The operation pounced on Voortrekker Road in Benoni, where permits issued to hawkers were checked and further ensuring compliance with the municipal laws.

Goods were confiscated from non-complying hawkers and taken to Boksburg EMPD pound for safekeeping.

THREE SUSPECTS NABBED FOR POSSESSION AND DEALING IN NARCOTICS – IN DAVEYTON

DAVEYTON – On Monday 27 July 2026, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Tracing Unit Officers, arrested three (3) suspects, comprising of two (2) males and one (1) female, between the ages of thirty-one (31) and forty (40), for possession and possible dealing in narcotics, in the Daveyton area.

The arrests follow after information received from community members, regarding suspicious movements, by certain residents in the area. Upon follow-up, Officers found a forty (40) year-old female suspect in possession of x23 small plastic ziplock bags of nyaope. She was immediately arrested in Daveyton.

A second suspect was also found in possession of x1 small plastic ziplock bags of co***ne and was arrested.

The third suspect was found in possession of x124 plastic ziplock bag of dagga and was also arrested.

All three (3) suspects were detained at Daveyton Police Station together with the confiscated narcotics, which have an estimated street value of eight thousand five hundred Rand (R8 500).

They are expected to appear before the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges of possession and dealing in narcotics.

KEMPTON PARK - Take note of an accident scene on the R21 direction South, just before the Pomona off-ramp.

Two(2) vehicles were involved, no fatalities have been reported, as two (2) right lanes are currently affected.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department(EMPD) Bike Unit Officers and SANRAL are on scene managing the situation.

Motorists are advised to approach the scene with caution and expect delays.

GOODS CONFISCATED DURING A CLEAN UP OPERATION – IN MAYFIELD AND CLOVERDENE AREAS

MAYFIELD & CLOVERDENE _ On Sunday the 26 of July 2026, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) By-law Compliance and Enforcement Unit Officers, conducted a clean-up operation at Mayfield Square and Cloverdene, where goods were confiscated from illegal hawkers.

The operation started at Mayfield Square in Daveyton then proceeded to Putfontein Road next to Shoprite in Cloverdene where hawkers were checked to see if they were complying with the law. Perishable goods were confiscated from illegal traders who were found not to be complying with the Municipal by-laws. The seized goods were taken to the Boksburg EMPD pound for safekeeping.

Similar clean-up operations will continue in the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE), to ensure that the city stays safe and clean.

A SUSPECT NABBED AND A REPORTED STOLEN TRAILER PLUS AN LDV RECOVERED – IN DUDUZA

DUDUZA – Between Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 July 2026, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Eastern Region Task Team Officers, arrested a thirty-eight (38) year-old suspect and recovered a stolen trailer, plus a vehicle during operations conducted, in the Duduza area.

While on patrol, Officers came across an abandoned trailer in a field. Upon further investigation, it was established that the trailer, had been hijacked/robbed in the Springs area. The trailer was subsequently impounded to the Aeroton Police Pound.

In a separate incident at Spaarwater by Duduza, Officers recovered a Ford Ranger Wild-track LightDeliveryVehicle (LDV), that had been hijacked from its owner the previous day. Upon arrival, few male suspects, who were working on the vehicle, fled and Officers managed to apprehend one (1). The vehicle was found partially stripped. All relevant stakeholders were notified, and the recovered vehicle, was also taken to the Aeroton Police Pound for safekeeping.

The arrested suspect was taken to the Duduza Police Station and is expected, to appear before the Duduza Magistrate’s Court soon.

A FOREIGN NATIONAL APPREHENDED FOR POSSESSION OF AN UNLICENSED FI***RM AND AM******ON – IN DAVEYTON

DAVEYTON – On Sunday 26 July 2026, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Daveyton Precinct Officers, arrested a forty-one (41) year-old Lesotho national for possession of an unlicensed fi***rm and am******on, in the Daveyton area.

The suspect drew the attention of Officers at the corner of Pulane and Lobedu Streets. Upon noticing the police presence, he fled. Officers gave chase and apprehended him.
During questioning, the suspect failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for his behaviour. A subsequent search led to the discovery of a CZ fi***rm with an intact serial number and three (3) live rounds.

The suspect was immediately arrested and detained at the Daveyton Police Station. He is expected to appear before the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court soon, to face charges of possession of an unlicensed fi***rm and possession of am******on.

A ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN HELD – IN THOKOZA

THOKOZA – The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Southern Region Social Crime Prevention Unit Officers, conducted a road safety awareness campaign, on Khumalo Street, in the Thokoza area.

The purpose of the campaign, was to educate members of the public and promote safer behaviour on the roads, to reduce traffic-related fatalities and injuries.

During the campaign, Officers distributed road safety pamphlets and shared important safety tips, with motorists.

MUNICIPAL BY-LAWS FOLLOW-UP OPERATION CONDUCTED – IN GERMISTON

GERMISTON – The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Southern Region Social Crime Prevention Unit Officers, conducted a Municipal By-Laws follow-up operation, in the Germiston Central Business District (C*D).

The operation, formed part of the ongoing compliance initiatives aimed at ensuring that street traders and businesses operating within the area possess valid trading permits and comply with the City’s Municipal By-Laws.

During the operation, Officers conducted inspections throughout the Germiston C*D including Meyer, President and Victoria streets, verifying that traders and businesses, were operating in accordance with the City’s by-laws and permit requirements.

The inspections also served to promote compliance and educate traders on the importance, of adhering to the applicable Municipal regulations.

OVERLOADED CROSS-BORDER TRANSPORT VEHICLE INTERCEPTED AND THREE SUSPECTS ARRESTED - IN BENONI

BENONI – The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Overload Unit Officers, arrested two (2) undocumented foreign nationals and a cross-border transport driver during a stop and search between Putfontein Road and Snake Road, in the Benoni area.

While Officers were patrolling the area, they observed a vehicle attempting to offload passengers on the freeway and directed the driver to Snake Road for inspection. The 14-seater minibus was found to be transporting fifteen (15) passengers, exceeding its legal capacity. Further checks revealed that one of the passengers was not listed on the official passenger manifest.

As this was cross-border transport, the driver is required to have a valid permit together with a passenger list. During the verification process, one male passenger who was not on the passenger list failed to produce any form of identification or travel documentation, while another passenger listed on the manifest was unable to provide a valid passport.

The two undocumented foreign nationals were arrested for contravening the Immigration Act. The driver was also arrested for allegedly aiding and abetting undocumented foreign nationals by facilitating their unlawful entry and transportation within the country. They were detained at the Benoni police station.

TWO EMPLOYERS ARRESTED FOR IMMIGRATION ACT VIOLATIONS - IN BENONI

BENONI – The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Overloads Unit Officers, in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS), arrested two (2) employers for contravening Section 38(1)(a) and (b) of the Immigration Act, 2002 (Act 13 of 2002), by employing undocumented foreign nationals, in the Benoni area.

The arrests were made during an ongoing compliance operation aimed at ensuring that businesses comply with South Africa's employment and immigration legislation. Officers conducted inspections at two companies in the Benoni area.

During the first inspection, a twenty-eight (28) year-old employer was found to have employed one (1) undocumented foreign national without a valid work permit. The employer was issued with a J534 admission of guilt fine of R5,000.
At the second company, a twenty-six (26) year-old employer was found to have employed four (4) undocumented foreign nationals. The employer was issued with four J534 admission of guilt fines, amounting to R20,000.

Both employers settled their admission of guilt fines at Benoni Police Station and were issued with J70 proof of payment receipts.

All five (5) undocumented foreign nationals between the ages of twenty-four (24) and thirty-one-years (31) were detained at Benoni Police Station for further processing in accordance with the applicable immigration legislation.
