Commemoration

On Monday, 31 August 2026, the Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison (DTSL) joined the Department of Social Development and other government agencies in commemorating International Overdose Awareness Day at the Galeshewe Recreational Hall in Kimberley, within the Frances Baard District.

The commemoration formed part of a broader effort to raise public awareness of the serious social and health consequences associated with drug- and alcohol-related overdoses. The event specifically sought to engage community members affected by substance use, as well as those involved in activities linked to alcohol and drug misuse.

📍 Today | HOD 8 Principles Action Plan

On Monday 31 August 2026, the Head of Department Mr Rodney Pieterse sat with department female directors to discuss the progress Report on the implementation of the HOD’s 8 Principles Plan.

Cabinet approved the 2000 National Policy Framework for Women's Empowerment and Gender Equality, along with the 2008 Gender Equality Strategic Framework for the Public Service, which includes Implementation Guidelines.

The Public Service Women Management Week was also launched as part of a comprehensive action plan to promote women's empowerment and gender equality in the workplace

The 8 principles comprises of:

-Transformation for non-sexism
-Establishing a Policy Environment
-Meeting Equity Targets
-Creating Enabling Environment
-Gender Mainstreaming
-Empowerment
-Providing Adequate Resources
-Accountability and Monitoring

The implementation of the HOD 8 Principles Action Plan has laid a strong foundation for gender transformation, with the commitment to building a public service that is ethical, inclusive, and truly responsive to the lived realities of all women, youth, and persons with disabilities.

ZFM Safety Participants Attend Financial Management Training

On 27 August 2026, ZF Mcgawu district Safety Participants attended a financial management training session at the Upington Mess, facilitated by Mr Moduka from the Department of Public Works.

The training focused on effective financial management, including budgeting, responsible spending, making informed financial decisions and planning for a better financial future.

The Acting District Manager, Mr Scholtz, was also in attendance and supported the initiative.

The session was informative and empowering, equipping participants with valuable skills to manage their finances responsibly.

The Human Resources Development Sub Directorate in the Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison is currently conducting Compulsory Induction Programme (CIP 6-12) in De Aar, Pixley Ka Seme District for Provincial Inspectors. This week-long training is a mandatory initiative governed by Public Service Regulations and Overseen by the National School of Government (NSG).

Tailored specifically for personnel on salary levels 6-12, the intensive session equips newly appointee with technical, professional, and with legal, ethical, administrative competencies required for Public Service within the Department.
