SANRAL PROVIDES AN UPDATE ON THE TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF CONSTRUCTION WORKS ON THE N2 SECTION 20

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) wishes to inform road users, local municipalities, stakeholders and affected communities that construction activities on the N2 Section 20 project have been temporarily suspended. This suspension may result in travel delays and disruptions during this period.

SANRAL apologises to all affected parties for any inconvenience caused by the temporary suspension.

WATER NOTICE | PLANNED 24-HOUR SHUTDOWN | MDANTSANE | FORT JACKSON | POTSDAM | UNIT P

Amatola Water has planned 24-hour shutdown at the Nahoon Water
Treatment Works from Tuesday, 18 August 2026, until Wednesday, 19 August 2026.

The shutdown is required to undertake critical maintenance on the pipeline.

All Mdantsane zones/ areas especially the high lying areas as the reservoirs will be empty or very low.

There will be not enough water to pump from NU1 Outspan reservoirs & pump stations to Mt Ruth, Cuttings then to Damspot and Fort Jackson reservoir.

The most affected areas are expected to be Mt Ruth supply zone (Mdantsane NU2 - 7) and Fort Jackson supply zone (Mdantsane NU 14, 16, R17, 18, Potsdam village) and Damspot reservoirs supply zone (NU 12, 13, 15, Fort Jackson industrial area and Potsdam, Unit P).

However, water supply to the Newlands Reservoir, Cyril Lord Reservoir and all non-Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality customers will not be affected.

The N6 route between Aliwal North, James Calata (Jamestown) and Kimber Bridge is drivable.

The grader removed most of the snow that was on the roadway.
Kimber Bridge to Penhoek pass is open for traffic. The road surface is still wet with strong winds, the snow is falling but is not compacting on the road surface.

Motorists are requested to drive slow and with caution. Provincial Traffic is continuing monitoring situation.

1. The route between Aliwal North, Jamestown and Kimber bridge drivable.

2. Kimber bridge to Penhoek pass along the N6 section 4 kilometer mark 71.0 to kilometer 65.0 is still snowing, however the road surface is slippery due to heavy snow on the roadway and there are strong winds in the are.

3. The Penhoek pass remains closed. The alternative route is from Aliwal North to Burgersdorp, Molteno and Sterkstroom, then join the N6 towards Komani.

4. The R58 route between Lady Grey and Ekhephini (Barkly East) is clear from Lady Grey to Dodrecht, from Dodrecht to Ekhephini (Barkly East) direction, there is slight snow and the surface is slippery with strong winds in the area.

5. The R397 route from Sterkstroom to Molteno is open and drivable..

Traffic officers are on the route to direct the Motorists.
