STATEMENT BY THE AFRICAN NATIONAL CONGRESS (ANC)
DR KENNETH KAUNDA REGION

The African National Congress in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda Region strongly and unequivocally condemns the barbaric acts of assaulting women irrespective of biological numerecy, more importantly as depicted in the video at Ward 13 Matlosana.

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is a serious scourge in South Africa.

No reason, excuse, provocation, or circumstance can ever justify the assault, abuse, or violation of any woman.

These acts are criminal, cowardly, and a direct attack on the dignity, safety, and fundamental human rights of our mothers, sisters, daughters, and partners.

The disturbing video from Ward 13 Matlosana serves as a painful reminder of the violence that continues to plague our communities and demands immediate accountability.
South Africa continues to face unacceptably high levels of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide.

The crisis has been declared a national disaster, Ward 13 will not be treated special irrespective of who is found wanting on the same.
This national emergency requires urgent, sustained action from every sector of society.

The ANC in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda Region stands firmly with all survivors and residents of Ward 13 Matlosana importantly cases must be opened with SAPS, the broader City of Matlosana.
We reaffirm our full support for the National Strategic Plan on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide and call for its accelerated implementation.We further call for:•Immediate thorough investigation of the incident captured on video and all related GBV cases; Strengthened community-led programmes that challenge harmful social norms; Improved protection, support, and psychosocial services for survivors;•Swift and effective policing and prosecution of perpetrators; and•Greater collaboration between government, civil society, faith-based organisations, traditional leaders, and communities.We urge every resident of Ward 13 Matlosana, the City of Matlosana, the Dr Kenneth Kaunda Region, and beyond to reject violence against women in all its forms. Silence and inaction only perpetuate the scourge.

Let us work together to build safer homes, safer streets, and a society where every woman and girl can live free from fear.
GBV has no place in our communities.
Enough is enough.

Today, a panel of ANC NEC members, led by Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, is in session to conduct interviews with prospective mayoral candidates for JB Marks and Mahikeng Local Municipalities, in line with the ANC NEC's resolution that all mayoral candidates undergo a comprehensive assessment process.

The panel, comprising of Cde. Mduduzi Manana and Sindisiwe Chikunga as members of the ANC National Executive Committee, is being observed by the NW ANC Provincial Secretary, Louis Diremelo, and PEC Member, Tumelo Maruping.
