Finding the Right Place to Learn 💚
Sometimes, supporting a child is about recognising that they need something different, and then taking the time to find the right path.
When a child joined Concordia Primary in Grade 1, the school quickly recognised that a different learning environment and additional support might help them feel more comfortable and able to participate in school life.
The school worked closely with the child’s family, psychologists and education professionals, putting the necessary assessments and applications in place and continuing to follow up as the process unfolded.
In the meantime, Concordia Primary made thoughtful adjustments within the school environment, finding spaces where the child felt more settled and could take part in activities in a way that worked for them.
After a series of assessments and consultations, the child was ultimately placed in a specialised support class at Knysna Primary School, where they could access an environment better suited to their individual needs.
For KILT, this is a reminder that educational support is not always about a single programme or intervention. Sometimes, it is about the adults around a child listening, adapting, communicating and working together to help find the right fit.
We’re grateful to Concordia Primary for the care and commitment they showed throughout this journey, and for keeping the child’s needs at the centre of their decisions.
Every child deserves the opportunity to learn in an environment where they can feel supported, understood and able to participate.
