Knysna Municipality

Knysna Municipality Knysna has always been the gem of the Garden Route. It includes Sedgefield, Karatara, Buffalo Bay, Rheenendal, Brenton and Noetzie.

The town nestles between the impressive Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean, with the world renowned forests encircling it like a protective mantle. The award-winning 21ha estuary is protected from the sea by the monolithic sandstone "Heads" - silent, centuries old sentinels of the rich history of this unique part of paradise on earth. The municipal area covers a total of 1059 km² that stretc

hes from Swartvlei in Sedgefield in the west to Brackenhill in the east. Knysna is in many ways a microcosm of South Africa: beautiful, vibrant and diverse.

WATER INTERRUPTION | RHOBOLOLO, WHITE LOCATION, QOLWENI AND ROSEMORE

Due to a landslide opposite Kunjani Mall, where cracking has occurred following excavation of the upper section of the fill, it is necessary to temporarily shut off the water supply overnight to prevent further movement that could affect adjacent municipal services.

The affected areas may include Rhobololo, White Location and Rosemore.

Municipal plumbing teams are on-site, working alongside the contractor, B&V Contractors, to assess and manage the situation.

Water supply will be restored tomorrow morning.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank residents for their understanding while this urgent work is being undertaken.

MAYOR AND COUNCILLORS STAND WITH SAPS FOLLOWING TRAGIC LOSS

Knysna Executive Mayor Cllr Thando Matika , accompanied by councillors representing all political parties in Council, visited the Knysna Police Station to convey their deepest condolences following the tragic passing of SAPS Captain Zamani Mzayiya in Knysna.

The delegation was received by the Station Commander and members of the PKTT.

The visit was a demonstration of solidarity, compassion and unity at a time when the community is mourning the loss of a dedicated police officer who gave his service to protecting others.

Matika expressed his profound sadness and extended heartfelt condolences to the Captain’s family, colleagues, friends and loved ones.

“When a police officer loses his life in the line of duty, an entire community feels the weight of that loss. Today, we stand together as one Council and one community to honour his service and to remind his family and colleagues that they are not alone in their grief.”

He acknowledged the courage and dedication of members of the SAPS and other law-enforcement agencies who continue to serve the community, often under extremely difficult and dangerous circumstances.

He urged the public to allow law-enforcement agencies the necessary space to conduct their investigations thoroughly and professionally, while cautioning against speculation or drawing conclusions before all the facts have been established.

Community members are encouraged to rely on verified and official sources of information and to share any information that may assist ongoing investigations with the SAPS. Anonymous information can also be provided through Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or via the MySAPS App.

“Today, we stood together as a Council because grief knows no political boundaries. In moments such as these, our humanity must come first. May the family find strength in knowing that their loved one’s service, sacrifice and memory will not be forgotten. May his colleagues find comfort in the knowledge that the community stands with them. May we, as the people of Knysna, continue to hold one another close as we navigate this difficult time,” concluded Matika.
