Thank you to KwaDabeka Library for the opportunity to network with fellow stakeholders and to share our entrepreneurship journey. It was an honour to engage with others, exchange ideas, and showcase the growth and successes achieved along the way.

Opportunities such as these inspire collaboration, learning, and community development. I am grateful to have been part of such a meaningful event.

Happy Youth Day! 🇿🇦

Yesterday, we had a beautiful evening with young women, where we discussed Mental Health and Identity.

One of the key lessons I learned is the vital role parents play in supporting their children. Our young people face enormous pressures every day!

Parents, make time to listen first. Before disciplining, correcting, or sharing your own opinions, take time to hear and understand your child's emotions. Show empathy by saying, "I'm sorry you are feeling this way." Allow them to feel heard and understood. Once they have had the opportunity to express themselves, you can come back later to share your perspective, guidance, or concerns.

Many young people feel that parents do not fully understand the pressures they face while striving to build a better future for themselves and their families.

This Youth Day, let us commit to listening more, understanding better, and supporting our youth as they navigate the challenges of life.

It's been 50 years.

The struggle has changed, but the fight for dignity, safety, and opportunity continues.

In 1976, young people raised their voices against injustice and demanded a better future. Their courage helped shape the South Africa we know today.
As we commemorate Youth Day, we also recognise the challenges many young people continue to face. From violence and abuse to unsafe environments and barriers to support.

Every young person deserves to feel safe, heard, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.💙

A safer future for young people starts with safer homes, safer schools, safer communities, and a collective commitment to protecting their rights and wellbeing. Today, we honour the youth of 1976 and reaffirm our commitment to the youth of today.

Because every generation deserves safety.

Happy Child Protection Month

As a community, we all have a role to play in protecting children. We can listen to them, believe them, guide them, and create safe spaces where they feel loved, respected, and protected. Children deserve homes, schools, and communities free from abuse, neglect, violence, and fear.

As parents, relatives, teachers, social workers, counselors, lawyers, churches, and community members — let us work together to raise emotionally safe and healthy children. A child who feels safe is more likely to grow with confidence, trust, and hope for the future.
Sometimes protection is not only about providing food and shelter. It is also about: • Listening without judging
• Being emotionally available
• Speaking kindly
• Taking children’s fears seriously
• Reporting abuse and neglect
• Choosing the best support systems for them
Let us protect children not only with words, but with our actions every day.

Happy Child Protection Week 💙

Good day Parents 🌸

As our children approach exam season, can we please make an effort to be emotionally available and ask them what support they need?
Learners are carrying so much anxiety about school these days. Sometimes they don’t only need books and study timetables — they need reassurance, patience, encouragement, and a safe space to breathe.

Please be present. A supported child performs better than a pressured child.

Let us create homes where children feel heard, understood, and emotionally safe during this stressful period.

Warm regards,
Your Mental Counsellor 🌷

Did you know?

✔️ Maintenance is the responsibility of both biological parents — not just one.

✔️ A biological mother can claim birth-related expenses through the Maintenance Court.

✔️ In certain cases, a step-parent may be held responsible for maintenance — but this usually requires proper investigation and legal consideration.

Understanding your rights and responsibilities can make a big difference for you and your child.

Grateful for the opportunity to share on mental health at the Lutheran Church – Christianenburg Parish Youth League.

Creating safe spaces for young people to talk, reflect, and understand their emotional well-being is something close to my heart. Mental health conversations matter, especially in our communities.

Thank you for the warm welcome and engagement.

Kudos to the leadership for priorities Mental Health in the churches!
