HANDOVER OF CHIEVIL PRODUCTION BOREHOLE WATER SUPPLY SCHEME

His Worship the Mayor, Inkosi N.B. Shabalala, will officially hand over the completed Chievil Production Borehole Water Supply Scheme to the residents of Ward 19, Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality. This project forms part of UThukela District Municipality’s ongoing commitment to providing sustainable, clean, and reliable water services to all communities.

The Handover is scheduled as follows:

UTHUKELA DISTRICT COUNCIL SWEARS IN INKOSI MABASO

The UThukela District Council has sworn in Inkosi WN Mabaso as a representative of Traditional Leaders, as contemplated in Section 81 of the Local Government: Municipal Structures Act of 1998. This is read concurrently with Circular SP1-10-2021 Amendment, which came into operation on 01 April 2021.

In terms of the Municipal Structures Act, traditional authorities that traditionally observe a system of customary law in the area of a municipality may participate in the proceedings of the municipal council. Due to the derecognition of Ibambalenkosi SW Sithole, Inkosi WN Mabaso has since replaced him effective May 2026 as participant in the UThukela District Municipal Council.

The swearing in ceremony was conducted during the sitting of a full Council at the UThukela Council Chamber today. It was officially conducted by the Municipal Manager, Mr LS Jili who facilitated the whole process.

UTHUKELA DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY RECEIVES RECOGNITION FROM DURBAN UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

On Friday, 22 May 2026, the Durban University of Technology (DUT) hosted the Employers’ Awards Ceremony in honour of Co-operative Education, Facilities, and Employers at the Coastlands Musgrave Hotel in Durban.

The UThukela District Municipality Municipal Health Services was proudly nominated and received an award. This was in recognition of its commitment, dedication, and excellence in providing Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities for students registered for a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Environmental Health.

This learning experience is a prerequisite of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and is compulsory for all students pursuing qualifications in Environmental Health. As part of their four-year academic training, students spend 100 days within the municipality, where they gain practical exposure in all Municipal Health Services functions.

Under the supervision of qualified Environmental Health Practitioners, students conduct inspections and acquire hands-on experience, enabling them to effectively apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings. The award ceremony was attended by the Senior Manager: Municipal Health Services, Mrs G.P.P. Mazibuko, and Manager: Municipal Health Services, Mrs G.P. Gwala, who expressed their gratitude for the recognition.

“This award demonstrates that hard work pays off and highlights the importance of sectoral partnerships in strengthening Municipal Health Services delivery in an effective and efficient manner,” said Mrs Mazibuko. The Municipality remains committed to supporting student development and fostering partnerships that contribute towards professional growth and improved service delivery within communities.

PUBLIC NOTICE: DAMAGED RAW WATER PIPES FROM SPIOENKOP TO LADYSMITH📌

This notice serves to inform the community of Alfred Duma local municipality that we have an incident on the Spioenkop raw water pipeline to Ladysmith. The pipeline was damaged due to construction.

Raw water to the Ladysmith Water Treatment Works (WTW) will be reduced until repairs to the line have been completed. We will be forced to implement water shedding tonight from 20h00 until 5h00 the next day.

Community is urged to use water sparingly. We will issue updates as and when the new information comes. Apologies for the inconvenience caused.
