Friday, 14th August 2026 | Collins Chabane Local Municipality, Malamulele

The Portfolio Committee on Economic Development, Environment and Tourism, chaired by Hon. Mapula Mokaba, conducted an oversight visit to Fumani Gold Mine situated along Atlein, Mtititi and Lombard villages.

The Committee was briefed that the mine initially operated in the 1930s and closed in the 1960s. It reopened between 1980 and 1991, but ceased operations again due to low profitability and recoveries.

Currently, excavation work is underway to establish the project as an underground development mine. The project is being undertaken in partnership with local communities through a Community Development Trust and investor partnerships. The mine is projected to create an estimated labour complement of approximately 500 jobs for people from the adjacent areas upon full operation.

The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to oversight that promotes responsible mining, job creation, inclusive community participation and sustainable economic development in the province.

Thursday, 13th August 2026, Day 6 | CPA 55th Conference | NJOBVU- Malawi

The Speaker of the Limpopo Legislature, Hon. Dr. Makoma Makhurupetje, today led Honourable Members in Day 6 proceedings of the 55th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Conference during Workshop A.

South Africa served as the mover for Topic 1 under Group A: *Governance, Peace and Security*. Discussions focused on _“Navigating Disruption: Parliamentary Strategies for Resilience in an Era of Political and Economic Turbulence.”_

Delegates further deliberated on Topic 2: *Economic Growth, Trade and Development*, with specific emphasis on Parliamentary Oversight of Continental Trade.

Proceedings concluded with Topic 3: *Climate Change, Energy and Environmental Sustainability*, which addressed _Mainstreaming Climate Resilience into National Budgets and Development Plans_, with focus on the Polluter Pays Principle and Carbon Credit Markets.

Thursday, 13th August 2026, the Portfolio Committee on Economic Development, Environment and Tourism led by Chairperson, Hon. Mokaba Mapula met with the Department led by MEC Dr. Matibe Tsh*tereke for a briefing on their entity Limpopo Economic Development Agency (LEDA) 2025/2026 financial year 4th Quarterly Performance Report.
Members need for LEDA to continue providing quarterly regular comprehensive reports on activities and performance of its divisions, subsidiaries, joint ventures and associates and further reiterated the need for an appropriate representation of women, youth and people living with disabilities in their employment as well as in the Board and its subsidiaries.

Members of the Limpopo Legislature are participating in the 2026 Women’s Parliament at Sol Plaatjie University Great Hall - Kimberly, led by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Tebogo Mamorobela, as Parliament commemorates 70 years since the historic 1956 Women’s March.

Held under the theme, “70 Years of Resistance, 72 Years of Vision (Women’s Charter) – Advancing Gender Justice, Equality and Resilient Economies for All,” the Women’s Parliament brings together women leaders and representatives to reflect on the gains made, confront persistent gender inequalities, and strengthen collective efforts towards an inclusive and empowered society.

The Portfolio Committee on Transport and Community Safety, chaired by Acting Chairperson Hon. Maringa VW, today concluded Day 2 of the Scholar Transport Public Enquiry. The session received responses from MEC Mathye SV, and MEC Lerule-Ramakhanya MM to concerns and challenges raised by stakeholders during Day 1. Hon. Rakgoale NC, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Education, outlined the way forward and the Committee’s position on the enquiry. She appreciated participants’ inputs and reiterated that follow-up sessions will be convened in the near future to provide feedback and the necessary support.

In his concluding remarks, Hon. Marx F thanked all stakeholders for their contributions and commitment to working together toward solutions that ensure the safety and wellbeing of learners, who are the future leaders of our province. The Committee remains committed to ensuring that scholar transport is safe, reliable, and dignified for all learners while Transport & Community Safety is entrusted with ensuring law enforcement and safer public roads for all in the Province.

The Limpopo Legislature delegation led by the Honourable Speaker, Dr Makoma Makhurupetje, is participating in the third day of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Region Conference and Annual General Meeting in Lilongwe, Malawi.

Malawi is hosting the 55th CPA Africa Region Conference and AGM at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) from 9 to 16 August 2026.

The Limpopo Legislature remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting international and regional solidarity, while leveraging these valuable engagements to strengthen democracy, parliamentary cooperation and collaboration in our province and across the region.

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA), led by Chairperson Hon. Esther Mokoele, earlier conducted an oversight visit to the Great North Transport Depot in Seshego, Polokwane. The oversight visit was followed by an engagement with the entity’s management at the Parliamentary Village, where the Committee considered matters relating to the operations and administration of Great North Transport.
