The second Tuesday of Pride month belongs to our favourite cheerleader on campus, Odirile Kgosiemang, who wishes all students who will be departing for home, after their first opportunity exams, travelling mercies.

Odi also sends congratulations to the NWU Soccer Institute for gaining promotion to the National First Division.🇿🇦

Proud is an understatement!💜⚽️

NOTICE OF YBM EXAMINATION PERIOD AND FOLLOW-UP VISITS TO ALL OFF-CAMPUS RESIDENCES VISITED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

After five months of consistent off-campus residence visits by the NWU YBM SC Residence Officer, Tshegofatso Lesiba, we are proud to announce that the YBM will now return to conducting oversight residence visits — particularly because of the issues most students have been raising on social media, due to the examination period and challenges thereof.

We will also conduct follow-up visits to ALL residences that we visited throughout the year, to check the state of the residences and determine whether or not, our interventions were successful.

All builders and students at large are urged to direct all challenges that they are currently facing to the YBM Office of the Secretariat — TSHEPANG NDLOVU (0619151107) and REFILWE KWAMONGWE (0676590924).

SEE YOU AT YOUR DOORSTEP SOON!

The debate around the R150 application fee has raised important questions about student leadership and accountability. What students must understand is that this policy was discussed and processed long before its implementation, during periods when both SASCO and EFFYC held leadership positions within the SRC. Despite having opportunities to challenge the proposal, neither organisation successfully stopped it before it became policy.

YBM maintains that students deserve honesty about how this process unfolded. Rather than engaging in political theatrics after the fact, our focus has been on ensuring that if the fee is implemented, the revenue generated must directly benefit students through debt relief, registration assistance, food support programmes, and aid for vulnerable students.

We welcome the University’s recent communication and will continue engaging management to ensure that struggling students, particularly those due to graduate, are prioritised and supported. Student leadership must be about accountability, transparency, and practical solutions—not election-season performances.

NEW MONTH FOR OUR COLOURFUL PEOPLE IN SOCIETY, SAME ISSUES OF EXCLUSION🏳️‍🌈

The NWU YBM SC begins by wishing a HAPPY PRIDE MONTH to our colourful and beautiful group in society, the LGBTQI+ community.

Whilst this month should be jovial and celebratory, as we reiterate our solidarity stance with the most valued members of the YBM family, we do so with mixed emotions given the recent developments we have made in NWU where students are excluded financially due to the NSFAS GAP INVESTIGATION, and Management having continued with the implementation of an APPLICATION FEE for all prospective students.

As already communicated, the NWU YBM SC has taken it upon itself to summon Management to a meeting to discuss these issues.

We therefore urge all students affected by the NSFAS GAP INVESTIGATION to respond to the below Google Form for us to raise it in our anticipated meeting with Management.

Amidst all the propaganda currently being spread by SASCO and EFFYC that the YBM is in cahoots with Management and that we are responsible for the introduction of the R150 Application Fee — we choose to speak the truth not because we are obliged, but because we believe that informed students make informed decisions.

The NWU YBM SC Political Eduactor, Bongani Ntando, narrates how the R150 Application Fee came to pass and clarifies the unequivocal stance of the YBM.❤️🖤💛🤍

QUITE LENGTHY BUT IMPORTANT

28/05/2026

Yesterday, the YBM Deputy Secretary, Refilwe Kwamongwe, spoke on NWU FM on burning student issues on campus including THE YBM STANCE ON THE NSFAS GAP INVESTIGATION and NWU APPLICATION FEE.

Having already engaged Management on these two issues, expected to meet them very soon — OUR STANCE IS UNEQUIVOCALLY CLEAR: SHOULD MANAGEMENT INTENTIONALLY STALL TO AVOID MEETING US IN ORDER TO IMPLEMENT THE APPLICATION FEE ALTHOUGH WE ARE AGAINST IT, then ALL the revenue made through it shall be REINVESTED into student.

This means ASSISTING STUDENTS WITH REGISTRATION IN 2027, ASSISTING STUDENTS WITH OUTSTANDING DEBT, and FUNDING DESERVING STUDENTS ACCORDINGLY!❤️🖤💛🤍

The NWU YBM SC Deputy Secretary debunking the myth that “Management is still working against students” and that “YBM remains a popularist organisation” as stressed by the UNAFFILIATED ORGANISATION.

The stance is as clear as day — campus politics have evolved and policies have been tightened. Unlike organisations which make noise on social media, only to agree to EVERYTHING proposed by Management in meetings, the stance of YBM remains — STUDENTS ARE THE PRIORITY.

This is therefore a call to ALL student leaders and organisations across campus to join the YBM in advocating for students in rooms that matter.

Propaganda politics will forever work against students, and YBM remains committed to ensuring that the raw truth is told to students, and real advocacy takes place on campus.

NOTICE OF YBM MEETING WITH CAMPUS MANAGEMENT ON LOOMING STUDENT ISSUES

Whilst the current SCC ruling party on the Mahikeng Campus and the unaffiliated student organisation decide to start speaking on students’ issues A MONTH AWAY FROM SCC ELECTIONS for relevance and personal gain — the YBM once again continues to hold Campus Management accountable directly, not through “posters of rejection without action”.

We have once again summoned Campus Management to a meeting, to particularly discuss the NSFAS GAP INVESTIGATION, NWU APPLICATION FEE, and OFF-CAMPUS RESIDENCE ISSUES.

As we always do, we believe in drafting a STUDENT-LED AGENDA, with points that will guide our arguments with management.

We are therefore calling upon ALL students to submit their concerns to our the YBM Office of the Secretariat at 067 659 0924 (Refilwe Kwamongwe) and 061 915 1107 (Tshepang Ndlovu).
