Swartland Municipality has taken note of a number of complaints regarding the taste of drinking water in certain areas. The cause is currently being investigated, and it is suspected that this may be due to an algal bloom in the Voëlvlei Dam.
This does, however, not affect the safety of the water. The water supplied by the Municipality IS safe for residents to drink and use.
Swartland’s water is continuously tested to ensure that it complies with the very high SANS 241 drinking water quality standards.
Swartland Municipality is working together with West Coast District Municipality to determine the exact reason for the change in taste and will provide further feedback as soon as more information becomes available.
Swartland Municipality wishes to assure residents that the water remains safe to drink and use.

Swartland Munisipaliteit neem kennis van die aantal klagtes rakende die smaak van drinkwater in sommige areas. Die oorsaak hiervan word tans ondersoek en die vermoede is dat dit is as gevolg van’n alge-bloei in die Voëlvleidam.
Dit beïnvloed egter nie die water veiligheid. Die water wat die munisipaliteit voorsien IS veilig vir inwoners om te gebruik. Swartland water word deurlopend getoets om te verseker dit voldoen aan die baie hoë SANS241.
Swartland Munisipaliteit werk saam met Weskus Distriksmunisipaliteit om die definitiewe rede vir die wisseling in smaak vas tel stel en sal terugvoer gee sodra ons meer weet. Swartland Munisipaliteit wil inwoners verseker dat die water veilig is om te drink en te gebruik.

The South African Weather Service has issued a warning for a cut-off low pressure system moving in on late Wednesday evening and continuing to affect the the Western Cape, including the Swartland Municipality, into Thursday and Friday (3 & 4 September).

The forecast expects cold weather, rain and strong winds.

Residents are advised to take precautions ahead of expected strong winds and rainfall.

✅ Secure loose items such as outdoor furniture, bins, trampolines and garden equipment.
✅ Check gutters and stormwater drains and remove leaves or other blockages.
✅ Close and secure windows, doors and gates.
✅ Avoid parking vehicles under large trees or unstable structures.
✅ Be careful on wet roads and allow extra travelling time.
✅ Never drive, walk or cycle through flooded roads or flowing water.
✅ Keep children and pets away from rivers, streams and stormwater channels.
✅ Be prepared for possible fallen trees, power interruptions and localised flooding.
