On the final day of the programme, Mpumalanga Provincial Treasury continued its efforts to support residents by providing access to information on published tenders, assisting suppliers with challenges relating to invoice payments for further follow-up, and providing guidance on navigating the Mpumalanga eRecruitment portal.

The initiative highlights the Provincial Treasury’s commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and accessible government services within communities.

Mpumalanga Provincial Treasury highlighted its ongoing support to Steve Tshwete Local Municipality during today’s Portfolio Committee on Finance meeting at the Municipal Chambers.

Led by Head Official Ms Gugu Mash*teng, the delegation outlined interventions focused on good governance, financial sustainability, service delivery and institutional capacity.

A key investment is the R4.9 million smart-meter project, aimed at strengthening revenue management and supporting the municipality’s financial sustainability.

Provincial Treasury support to municipalities also extends to budget credibility, audit improvement, SCM compliance, mSCOA, asset management, internal audit and accountability.

The Auditor-General welcomed the support provided by Provincial Treasury to municipalities, highlighting the value of continued collaboration to strengthen municipal performance and audit outcomes.

The meeting forms part of the ongoing Taking Legislature to the People Program which will be concluded tomorrow, 04 September 2026.

Annual Municipal Finance Management Internship Programme (MFMIP) two-day workshop held at Pine Lake, White River.

More than 35 learners converged for the Annual Municipal Finance Management Internship Programme (MFMIP) two-day workshop held at Pine Lake, White River.

The workshop, hosted by the Mpumalanga Provincial Treasury in collaboration with National Treasury, aims to empower interns who are currently placed in various municipalities across the province.

The MFMIP was introduced in 2004 to recruit graduates in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Risk Management and Internal Auditing for multi-year internships. The programme seeks to build capacity and assist municipalities to meet their financial management and constitutional responsibilities.

During the 24-month internship contract, interns are required to gain practical exposure in key municipal finance areas including Revenue Management, Budget Management, Financial Reporting, Asset Management, Internal Audit, Risk Management, Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Expenditure Management.

As part of the workshop, National Treasury conducted a verification session to authenticate learners' documents.

Mpumalanga Provincial Treasury joined key stakeholders at the launch of the Mpumalanga Real Estate Training and Placement Programme, held at the Sydney Choma Banquet Hall in Steve Tshwete Local Municipality.

The launch was officiated by the Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane, alongside the Mpumalanga Premier, Mandla Ndlovu.

The 12-month programme aims to promote inclusive economic participation and transformation in the real estate sector by creating opportunities for skills development, training, and employment for young people. Participants will gain the knowledge, practical skills and competencies needed to effectively operate within the property sector.

The programme is a collaborative initiative involving various public and private sector institutions, including Mpumalanga Public Works, Roads and Transport, Services SETA, the Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority (PPRA), Mpumalanga Provincial Treasury, and entities within the Department of Human Settlements.

Through partnerships such as these, government and industry are investing in the development of young talent and creating pathways for meaningful participation in the real estate sector.

The Mpumalanga Provincial Treasury joined the week-long Taking Legislature to the People (TLP) programme as it gets underway at Mhluzi’s Themba Sinamela Stadium, under the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality.

The programme provides an important platform for Steve Tshwete residents to assess the quality, adequacy and effectiveness of government services, while raising service delivery concerns directly with public representatives and receiving immediate responses where possible.

At the Treasury gazebo, residents can access information on published tenders, report supplier challenges relating to invoice payments for follow-up, and receive guidance on the Mpumalanga eRecruitment portal.

A Day to Stop, Reflect, Empower and Sharpen One Another

Today, 28 August 2026 was an opportunity to stop, reflect, empower and sharpen one another.

In the workplace, taking time to pause and reflect allows us to appreciate how far we have come, identify areas for growth and recommit ourselves to building a stronger, more supportive department.

Every speaker in the programme encouraged the women in attendance to prioritise their wellbeing and mental health to ensure a healthy and productive workshops.

When employees feel supported, valued and empowered, they are better able to contribute meaningfully to the organisation. Looking after one another means creating an environment where people can speak, learn, grow and thrive.

The Head Official of the Provincial Treasury, Ms Gugu Mash*teng, hosted a Working Breakfast on Women Empowerment and Gender Equality with women senior managers in Middelburg on Friday, 28 August 2025.

The meeting formed part of the annual Public Service Women Management Week programme, championed nationwide by the Department of Public Service and Administration.

The hybrid session brought together women senior managers and heads of sections within the Provincial Treasury's management echelon to reflect on progress from the last meeting held at almost the same time, challenges and opportunities relating to women's empowerment and gender equality in the workplace, and in the department in particular.

The forum considered and adopted recommendations arising from presentations on the institutional action plan aimed at advancing women empowerment and gender equality within the department.

In its reflections, the 2026 PSWMW session emphasised that the true measure of progress lies not in the number of policies in place, but in the outcomes and impact of those policies on the workplace and broader society.

The forum further agreed that the real test of the current management lies in ensuring the proposals from this meeting are implemented fully, and the outcomes are communicated to share the correct story of progress made by the department in realisation of gender responsive programmes.
