SITE INSPECTION AT VAALBANK WATER TREATMENT WORK 💦💦💦💦💦
Executive Mayor, Cllr Mhlonishwa Masilela visited the Vaalbank Water Treatment Work Plant, on Friday (5 June 2026), to inspect the progress of the project. He was supported by the Municipal Manager Mandla Mnguni.
Currently there is a biweekly water supply interruption due to Vaalbank Water Treatment works refurbishment and upgrading the project.
The project is still in progress and the main purpose of the project is to address aging infrastructure at the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and to improve potable water quality which is produced and supplied to the residents.
The project includes the upgrading of bulk electrical supply, construction of new sludge ponds, paving of internal roads, and refurbishment of the existing pump station.
The main activities which are carried out during the shutdown includes the replacement of old mechanical and electrical equipment at the Vaalbank WTP- Pump Station.
Which is the replacement of suction and delivery pipes, pumps, motors, valves and electrical panel (MCC), concrete works which requires to set/ dry-out before plant is back to operation.
During the planned shutdown at Vaalbank Water Treatment Works, water production stops, our reservoirs water level then drop low, which is the main reason why the residents will experience water supply interruption and low pressure.
It takes up to 4 days to completely restore water supply to full capacity in all areas after shutdown.
It is estimated that the shutdown at the WTW will still continue biweekly for the next coming 2 months.
We urge residents to use water sparingly during this period as the Municipality continues to provide Jojo tanks to the affected areas.
