Dashcam footage has emerged of a truck driver ducking for cover as gunmen shoot at his truck.

The 30 second video starts with the truck driver enjoying his maskandi music as he drives.

Joy turns to worry in a split second presumably after the driver notices a man on the side of the road pointing a gun at him.

His fears turn true as the gunman starts shooting at the truck as he passes.

The driver ducks as the bullets shatter both the driver and passenger windows.

This is a developing story.

Alleged CIT heist kingpin killed in shoot-out

Sipho Harrison Nkosi (39), also known as “Silver Mirror”, evaded law enforcement officials for years. Nkosi is alleged to have had a hand in a number of cash-in-transit (CIT) heists.

Last Wednesday he and four others were fatally wounded in a shoot-out with the Sedibeng Tactical Response Team and the Ekhurhuleni SWAT team.

Col Brenda Muridili of the SAPS’ national head office, corporate communication and liaison, said in a statement, “An unknown number of suspects robbed security guards of an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the scene, leaving one of their vehicles ablaze.

“Intelligence led the two teams to Klippoortjie on Carol Avenue. On their arrival at the safe house, a shoot-out ensued between the suspects and the police.
“Five suspects were fatally wounded while two were arrested.” The police managed to recover some of the stolen money, along with four fi****ms, ammunition and three suspected stolen cars.

“Three which had been hijacked in separate incidents in Gauteng this year in Springs, Midrand and Boksburg North, were also recovered. Four unlicensed fi****ms and ammunition and an undisclosed amount of money were also seized,” Mudirili continued.

According to a source who did not want to be named, the police had been on Nkosi’s trail for a number of years, but could not get charges to stick.

“He faced numerous arrests, stretching 18 years back. These ranged from a house robbery in Matsulu in 2002, to attempted murder, possession of explosives, assault and a CIT heist,” the source said.

The charges were laid in Mbombela in the City of Mbombela, KaBokweni, Matsulu, Tonga, Schoemansdal and White River policing precincts. Six of the charges were withdrawn and Nkosi was never linked to any CIT heists.

Lowvelder could not confirm with the police that Nkosi numbered among the dead in last week’s shoot-out, but an impeccable source close to the investigation confirmed that Nkosi had died.

Gen Khehla Sitole, the national police commissioner, lauded the SAPS for working together to ensure that the suspects were brought to book. “With the build-up to the festive season, there will be heightened vigilance and prioritisation of CIT robberies, especially in Gauteng where they are more prevalent,” said Sitole.

A Cape Town waiter has died after he tried to stop suspected cellphone thieves from leaving the restaurant he worked at and was flung from the bonnet of the getaway vehicle.

"He was dragged about a kilometre along the road," said Jakes restaurant owner David Ellis of the tragedy which unfolded on Monday night.

"He wasn't trying to save the world, he just felt it wasn't right that someone had taken a phone."
Ellis said the heartbreaking news was broken to Braden Cannoo's family on Monday night.

Cannoo, 22 from Lakeside, had been working at the restaurant for around a year.

'Aggressive and intentional'

A couple, posing as customers, entered the establishment at around 18:00 and asked for a table.

Staff's suspicions were raised and the couple decided to leave. Ellis said a customer walking in spotted one of the suspects take the manager's cellphone on the reception desk.

"This poor lady semi-screamed out that someone's phone has just been taken, out of a little bit of panic."

The couple split up and the man rushed out the front door and into the back of a waiting vehicle.
"Braden, who is a studious guy, said: 'That is not your possession, you must give it back,'".

"He jumped onto the bonnet of the car, thinking they would not go anywhere, but they accelerated. A car guard said they were very aggressive and intentional."

The vehicle drove off with the waiter through the outdoor shopping centre parking lot.
"The car sped toward the Reddam, US Consulate traffic circle where he was eventually freed from under the car... It's just very tragic, unlucky and unfortunate."

They were able to grab the female suspect and keep her behind the bathroom gate until police arrived.
Western Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, confirmed they were investigating a murder and theft case.

According to their records, three men and a female had walked into the restaurant and decided to leave before being seated.
"It was then noticed that one of the employee's cellphone was stolen. A chased ensued and the three males jumped into an Avanza while the female suspect was left behind,".

The woman was detained on a case of theft, while the men were still on the loose.
In a Facebook post, the restaurant described the young waiter and student as gentle, thoughtful and a real hero.

Customers and locals shared their shock and sadness at the turn of events.

"Oh no he served us often. What a sweet special guy. Condolences to his family, friends and loved ones," a customer posted.
Another said: "Such an incredible human. So brave and such a hero. RIP Braden."

Durban - Andrew Hughes, a popular Durban comedian and a friend he was travelling with were shot in Wentworth on Thursday night in what many believe is a case of mistaken identity.

Hughes and his friend was in Landsdowne Road in Wentworth when an unknown gunman opened fire on the car they were sitting in.

Hughes and his friend were shot multiple times.

According to several people despite being shot numerous times, Hughes was able to drive him and his friend to the nearby Wentworth hospital.

Hughes, who has gained comedic fame for his musical skits on social media and on the local comedy scene, was said to be in stable condition on Friday.

His friend is said to be in a more serious condition.

“This is all linked to the drug war that is ongoing in Wentworth,”

“Those that are looking into this matter must look at the shooting last week Saturday and see if there are any links. There is just too many guns in Wentworth. These hotspots where all the shootings take place must be placed under lockdown and the police must go in, remove the guns from these places that they are kept in,”.

D’Sa said that the two men shot on Thursday night are not linked to any gang activity themselves but said people are often targeted because they may know someone that is linked gangsters.

This could be a case of mistaken identity but the larger issue at stake here is the amount of guns that are on our streets. Something needs to happen around that,” he said.

Wentworth, south of Durban has been at the epicentre of gang war in recent years over the control of the lucrative drug trade. The area has been plagued with drive-by shootings and gang related murders that has often seen innocent people caught in the crossfire.
