ANC Rita Phiri Branch Statement Following the Ordinary Branch Elections Team (BET) Strategic Planning Session
The African National Congress (ANC) Rita Phiri Branch convened its Ordinary Branch Elections Team (BET) Strategic Planning Session, during which several matters affecting the Amsterdam community were discussed. The Branch wishes to communicate the following:
1. Refurbishment of Emoyeni Stadium
The ANC Rita Phiri Branch welcomes the Mkhondo Local Municipality’s issuance of the Request for Quotations (RFQ) for the Refurbishment of the Amsterdam Sport Facility (Emoyeni Stadium).
This development marks an important milestone towards improving sporting infrastructure in Amsterdam and creating an environment that promotes youth development, recreation, and community participation in sport. The Branch will continue to monitor the implementation of the project to ensure that it is delivered efficiently and benefits the local community.
2. Gert Sibande TVET College Campus
The ANC Rita Phiri Branch welcomes the Municipality’s decision to donate land for the construction of the Gert Sibande TVET College Campus in Amsterdam.
This investment represents a significant step towards expanding access to higher education and skills development for young people within Mkhondo. The Branch believes the campus will contribute meaningfully to local economic development, employment opportunities, and the empowerment of future generations.
3. Clarification on the 1,000 Sites Human Settlements Project
The ANC Rita Phiri Branch wishes to correct misinformation currently being circulated regarding the 1,000 Sites Human Settlements Project.
Contrary to allegations being made for political purposes, not all residential sites will be sold.
The Branch confirms that RDP houses will continue to form part of the development, in line with the 60/40 allocation model of the Mpumalanga Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA).
The project comprises:
* Gap Market residential sites;
* RDP housing opportunities;
* A school site;
* Church sites; and
* Business sites.
To ensure that residents receive accurate information, a series of community engagement meetings will be convened by the relevant deployees to explain the project in detail and to prevent the continued spread of misinformation.
4. Branch Elections Team (BET) Composition
The ANC Rita Phiri Branch further wishes to inform members of the community that Comrade Nhlakanipho Gwebu, Councillor-Elect for Ward 05, has been co-opted into the Branch Executive Committee (BEC).
Comrade Gwebu will be responsible for the Service Delivery Portfolio, where he will assist in strengthening oversight, community engagement, and the implementation of service delivery programmes within the Branch.
The ANC remains committed to transparent leadership, accountable governance, and improving the quality of life of all residents.
Infrastructure Development in Amsterdam
The ANC Rita Phiri Branch notes with appreciation the continued implementation of key infrastructure and development projects aimed at improving the quality of life of residents and stimulating local economic development.
Projects Currently Under Construction
The Branch welcomes the progress made on the following projects:
* Upgrade of the Amsterdam Sewer Reticulation Network;
* Construction of the Amsterdam Pump Station;
* Construction of the Gabosch Dam; and
* Development of the Amsterdam Extension 05 Human Settlement Project (1,000 Sites).
These projects demonstrate government’s continued investment in expanding essential infrastructure, improving access to basic services, and creating sustainable human settlements.
Completed Projects
The Branch also acknowledges the successful completion of the following projects:
* KwaThandeka Access Route Pavement; and
* Amsterdam Shopping Plaza.
The ANC remains committed to building a better Amsterdam through honest leadership, accountable governance, and accelerated service delivery.
