The spirit of youth empowerment, unity and remembrance filled the air at Mocoseng as the Mahikeng Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. Tshepiso Mphehlo, joined hundreds of community members and young people at the Khuting Tournament held in commemoration of Youth Day on 16 June.

The tournament brought together Tournament Organisers, Hollywood Bet, talented young athletes from surrounding areas and across Botswana in a celebration of sport, community development and the enduring legacy of the youth of 1976. Participants showcased their skills and determination on the field while spectators gathered in large numbers to support local teams and enjoy a day dedicated to honouring the sacrifices made by young South Africans in the struggle for freedom and equal education.

The four days Khuting Tournament also served as a platform for promoting social cohesion and through the competition and teamwork, participants demonstrated the power of sport in bringing communities together and creating positive alternatives for youth development. Community members welcomed the Mayor's presence at the event, describing it as a sign of the municipality's commitment to engaging with young people and supporting the tournament initiatives.

As the nation commemorates Youth Day, events such as the Khuting Tournament continue to remind communities of the important role young people play in driving social progress and development. The gathering at Mocoseng stood as a fitting tribute to the legacy of June 16 and a celebration of the potential that lies within the youth of Mahikeng.

The Leopard Park Golf Course and Restaurant officially reopened on 16 June 2026, marking a significant milestone for the local sporting community and residents of Mahikeng. The reopening celebration attracted golfers, community members, business stakeholders, including the Executive Mayor of Mahikeng Local Municipality, Cllr. Tshepiso Mphehlo, who attended the event following an invitation from the club.

The occasion coincided with Youth Day, adding further significance to a day dedicated to community development, recreation and social cohesion. The reopening follows months of dedication and hard work led by the club's Captain, Mr Bailly Mahlakoleng and his team, who worked tirelessly to improve the golf course, enhance the property and revitalise the restaurant. Their efforts have resulted in a facility that offers an improved golfing experience and a welcoming environment for families, visitors and sports enthusiasts.

Despite various challenges encountered during the process, the team's commitment to bringing their vision to life has transformed Leopard Park into a destination that reflects excellence and pride. The upgraded facility is expected to contribute positively to local tourism, economic activity and sporting development in Mahikeng.

As Leopard Park Golf Course and Restaurant embarks on this new journey, it stands as a symbol of determination, community partnership and progress, offering residents and visitors a world-class recreational space to enjoy for years to come.

Mahikeng Local Municipality continues with the Grass Cutting program. We were in James Moroka road opposite Mmabana, where we Cut and remove dense bush and cleared access paths. The Area is now cleared, crime free and conducive for use.

MAHIKENG PUBLIC LEGAL OUTREACH PROGRAMME
The Mahikeng Local Municipality, in partnership with the Legal Services Ombud and the Legal Practice Council, invites all residents to attend a Public Outreach Programme aimed at promoting access to justice and protecting the public interest in the rendering of legal services.
This important engagement will provide members of the public with an opportunity to learn about their rights, the standards expected from legal practitioners, and the avenues available for lodging complaints regarding legal services.
