THE FINAL CHAPTER — UNTIL WE RETURN

This morning, we packed the last bags, said our final goodbyes, and stood beneath our last sunrise in Mozambique.

For a moment, nobody really wanted to speak.

Because this was it.

The camp that had been our home.
The fires that welcomed us every evening.
The long days in the bush.
The short nights.
The dust on our boots.
The sweat on our backs.
The tiny tsetse flies that somehow always found us.
The laughter around the campfire.
The silence when something wild appeared in front of us.

And the elephants…Those incredible giants that wandered through this landscape as though we were the visitors — because, in truth, we were.

We came here looking for trophies.

But we leave carrying something far more valuable.

Memories.

We watched the sun rise over untouched wilderness and disappear behind the horizon at the end of long hunting days. We travelled for miles searching for the animals we had dreamed about. We walked, we waited, we tracked, we missed opportunities, we found others, and sometimes the bush simply reminded us that nature makes the rules.

There were moments of excitement that made your heart race.

Moments where everything went completely quiet.

Moments where you could feel that something was close, even before you saw it.

And moments where we simply sat and watched.

Because sometimes the greatest experience was not pulling the trigger.

It was being there.

Being surrounded by a piece of Africa where nature still exists on its own terms.

Then came the final morning.

Our bags were loaded.

The camp was quiet.

One last look around.

One last sunrise.

And then we climbed aboard the charter.

Before landing, the aircraft made its familiar turn over the dirt landing strip — chasing away any animals that might have decided that our runway belonged to them.

Even our departure had to happen on Africa's terms.

As the aircraft lifted away, we looked down at the camp becoming smaller beneath us.

And somewhere below us was a piece of each of us that will remain there.

Because something happens to you in a place like this.

You become humbled.

You realise how small you are.

You realise how incredibly blessed you are simply to experience a raw piece of nature like this.

From the smallest tsetse fly that tested our patience…

To the largest elephant moving silently through the bush.

From the tracks in the sand…

To the distant calls in the darkness.

From the first light of morning…

To the last light of every long day.

We experienced it all.

And as we finally took photographs of the trophies, there was plenty of laughter.

Stories were told again.

Some became funnier the second time around.

Some moments will probably be talked about for years.

And looking around at everyone, tired, sunburnt, dusty and happy, one thing became very clear:

We would change nothing.

Not the long drives.

Not the short nights.

Not the heat.

Not the flies.

Not the missed opportunities.

Not a single exhausting day.

Because every one of those moments became part of the story.

A story we will carry home.

A story that will be told around campfires.

A story that will bring smiles long after the dust has settled.

And now…
The chapter closes.

For now.

Mozambique, thank you.

Thank you for the wilderness.

Thank you for the memories.

Thank you for reminding us what it feels like to step away from the noise of the world and become part of something wild and untouched.

We leave with tired bodies, full hearts and memories that will stay with us for a lifetime.

A piece of us stays behind.

And perhaps that is why we already know…This is not goodbye!
It is simply…until we return.

THE LAST CHAPTER

Yesterday, the final shot was fired.

The last animal fell.

And just like that… the hunt was over.

The day began with a kudu.

One shot.

That was all it took.

Later, Granddad had his turn, and a duiker became the final trophy of this unforgettable safari.

And as we stood there, looking at the animals we had worked so hard for, there was a deep sense of gratitude.

We had been truly blessed.

Blessed with incredible trophies.
Blessed with long days in the bush.
Blessed with the challenge, the excitement, the unexpected moments… and the memories that will stay long after we leave.

But every good story has a final chapter.

Today, the rifles are packed away.

The vehicles will be prepared.

There is no hurry now.

Today is simply a day to breathe… to relax… and to take in the place that has been our home for these past days.

Tomorrow morning, we begin the long journey back.

And perhaps that is the hardest part.

Knowing that the footsteps through the bush will stop.

The early mornings will become memories.

The distant calls of Africa will slowly fade behind us.

And those spectacular Mozambican sunsets will be left behind.

There is something bitter-sweet about the end of a safari.

Because when you have experienced a place like this, you don't really want to say goodbye.

You only want to say…until next time.

Because this is not the end.

Mozambique will still be here.

The wild places will still be here.

The great animals will still roam beneath the African sun.

And one day, we will return.

We will walk these tracks again.

We will sit beneath another fading sunset.

We will listen to the bush come alive around us.

And once again, we will feel that familiar anticipation…

What will tomorrow bring?

For now, though, the story closes.

The rifles are quiet.

The bush settles back into its rhythm.

The sun disappears beyond the horizon one last time.

And somewhere behind us lie the memories of an adventure that will never truly be over.

The End…

For now.

Tomorrow, we leave you with something different…

Not the trophies.

Not the shots.

But the place itself.

The wild beauty of Mozambique.

The sunsets, the landscapes, the moments between the hunts…

The experience of Africa.

THE SECOND BUFFALO — GRANDDAD’S TURN

Another long day in the Niassa bush.
And with only a few hunting days left, the pressure was on.

The main focus was buffalo. This was the second buffalo of the hunt — the first one already in the salt.
Now it was Granddad’s turn.

But the African bush had other plans first…
While travelling through the Niassa wilderness, we suddenly came across a herd of Niassa wildebeest

And there he was.
A big bull.
There was no time to think twice.
A quick decision.
A steady shot.
Good shot placement.
And just like that, another magnificent trophy was on the ground.

But there was no time to celebrate. Because somewhere out there, an old dagga bull was waiting.

We carried on. Eventually, we found him in a riverbed.
And from that moment…the buffalo hunt was ON.

The bull was old. He was wary. And he knew the bush.
We moved carefully, watching the wind, watching every movement and trying to find a way through the thick river vegetation.

Then suddenly…There he was.
For a few tense moments, everything came together.
The bull stepped out.
Broadside.
The rifle cracked.
But the old warrior wasn't finished.
He disappeared into the thick river bush and reeds.
We followed.
Branches breaking.
Reeds moving.
Fresh sign in front of us.

Every few steps brought another question.
Was he going to stop?
Would we get another chance?

And then came another opportunity.
Several shots were taken throughout the tense follow-up.

The bull kept pushing.
He was tough.
He was old.
And he was determined not to give up.

We kept going.
Deeper into the riverbed.
Closer.

And then…
The final opportunity.
The bull stopped.
The rifle came up.
The shot broke the silence.
And this time…the old dagga bull finally went down.

For a few seconds, nobody said anything.
Then you could hear the relief.
The excitement.
The celebration.

The suspense was over. Granddad had his buffalo.
And what a buffalo it was.

Back at the hunting vehicle, the tsetse flies were still doing their best to make life difficult. But out here, you make a plan.

The guides lit elephant dung smoke at the back of the hunting vehicle to keep the flies away.
No luxury.
No shortcuts.
Just the bush, the people beside you, and whatever solution you can find.

By the time we reached camp, everyone was tired.
But it was that good kind of tired.

A well-deserved drink.
A roaring fire.
And a story that got told more than once.
The Niassa wildebeest.
The old dagga bull.
The shots.
The chase through the river bush.
And finally…that moment when Granddad’s buffalo was down.
The second buffalo of the hunt is now in the salt.
Granddad’s turn is done. And he certainly made it count.

Only a few days remain.

And if there is one thing Niassa has taught us…
the next few days could bring absolutely anything.

The hunt isn't over yet

DAY 8 — THE CLOCK IS TICKING
The alarm came early again.
Before the sun had even broken the horizon, we were already moving.
Another day in the Mozambique bush. Another day chasing the trophies we came here for.
A big old dagga boy was high on the list. The kind of buffalo that makes you stop, study the tracks twice, and wonder what is waiting just beyond the next thicket.
We spent the entire day searching.
Following tracks. Reading the bush. Checking fresh sign. Moving from one promising area to the next.
But Mozambique had other plans.
The trophies we were looking for simply refused to show themselves.
As the sun dropped lower, the heat began to fade from the bush, but the pressure only grew. We were still miles from camp, and once again, we found ourselves heading back late in the evening.
Another long day.
Another day gone.
And now there are only a few days left.
The hunt is almost over.
There is no more time to wait for the perfect opportunity.
Today, we go all in.
Every track matters. Every fresh sign matters. Every distant sound could be the one that changes everything.
The old dagga boy is still out there.
The trophies we came for are still somewhere in this vast wilderness.
And for the next few days, we are going to give it everything we have.
**The final days have begun.**
And in Mozambique…
you never know what is waiting around the next corner. 🇲🇿
The clock is ticking. The pressure is on. And the hunt is far from over.

The Kudu That Still Holds Its Secrets

Yesterday, we decided to slow things down.

After days of leaving before sunrise, travelling nearly three hours each way to the hunting areas and returning to camp long after dark, everyone was starting to feel the miles. Mozambique is wild, remote and unforgiving — this is not hunting for the faint-hearted.

We headed out after lunch, hoping the slower start would give everyone a chance to catch their breath.

The afternoon brought its own excitement. A shot was taken at a beautiful blue wildebeest — but the shot did not connect. That is hunting. Not every opportunity becomes a trophy.

As we made our long journey back, the thermals came out. We scanned the open country, searching for animals worth stopping for. Every rise, every patch of bush and every distant movement brought a moment of anticipation.

But nothing we wanted showed itself.

And then there is the kudu.

The huge bull that has occupied our thoughts for days.

This morning, the trackers went back out searching again. Every piece of sign was checked. Every likely place was investigated.

Still nothing.

No kudu.

No fresh sign.

And most importantly — no vultures.

That gives us hope, but it also reminds us just how vast this country really is. In this part of Mozambique, the landscape opens up into enormous stretches of country. A wounded kudu can disappear into that wilderness and be almost impossible to locate.

Sometimes, as hunters, we have to face the hardest part of the hunt.

You have to know when to count your losses.

It doesn't mean giving up easily. It means respecting the reality of the bush.

Today, we turn our attention back to an area known for plenty of plains game and buffalo. Another full day lies ahead. Another three-hour journey. Another day of tracking, glassing, walking and waiting.

And somewhere out there, the bush still holds its secrets.

The hunt continues. 🌅🇲🇿

Because in Mozambique, nothing is guaranteed.

And that's exactly what makes every moment count.

DAY 6 — THE KUDU THAT LEFT NO TRACE

Yesterday, the hunt continued.

A fine warthog fell first, followed by a beautiful common reedbuck. Two more trophies added to the story of this wild Mozambique safari.

But there was one animal still occupying everyone’s thoughts…

The huge kudu bull.

We searched again. Tracks, broken branches, the smallest signs that might tell us where he had gone. But the bush remained silent.

No blood.
No fresh tracks.
No sign of a carcass.
And strangely… not a single vulture circling above.

That could only mean one thing — there was still a chance.

As the sun climbed higher and the heat settled over the bush, every distant movement caught our attention. Every bird call made us stop. Every patch of thick cover raised the same question:

Could he be in there?

The kudu had disappeared into some of the toughest country imaginable, but we weren't ready to write the final chapter.

Tomorrow, we go back in.

Because somewhere out there, in the endless Mozambique bush, a giant kudu bull may still be waiting.

The story isn't over yet…
