A few days of bird ringing and Atlassing, as well as recording of bird calls has been happening on Ouberg PNR. We worked with The Biodiversity and Development Institute, and the BioAcoustics team from SeaSearch came to make recordings of bird calls, to contribute toward the data collection project of The Big Year of African Sound. In addition, we had a visit by Monwa of our neighbour, African Game Lodge. It has been a wonderful busy few days, and we are really thankful to those that participated - we are collecting some interesting data! Keep an eye open for news about future ringing events on Ouberg PNR!

For many years Ouberg PNR has been a place for research sites for students. Our focus though, is to encourage participation in Citizen Science. We have hosted quite a few BioMapping, Atlassing and Bird Ringing events on Ouberg… the data collected from these fun gatherings is curated on a variety of Citizen Science sites and some is used in research studies by students.
I am interested in setting up a monitoring programme investigating how birds utilise and move through the variety of different habitats on Ouberg PNR seasonally, and especially the importance of the heuweltjie and dry river beds as refugia and habitats by bird ( and other) species.

Spotted on Ouberg about 100 m from the main house. Thank you Estelle for the footage. Many of the animals we have on the farm only show up on our camera traps and you would be completely unaware of their existence.
