What a wonderful way to bring the Montagu Winter Trail Run Series to a close at African Game Lodge!

A heartfelt THANK YOU to every runner, walker, family, supporter and friend who joined us throughout the series and especially for the Grand Finale here at African Game Lodge.

From the first kilometre to the final finish line, you brought energy, smiles, determination and a wonderful community spirit to the trails. 🏃‍♂️🌿

A special thank you to Makadas Adventures for organising and bringing the series together, and to all the volunteers, marshals, sponsors and everyone working behind the scenes to make these events possible.

Most importantly, thank you for choosing to spend your time in our beautiful Klein Karoo and for helping us create something special here at African Game Lodge.

Every trail tells a story, and this series has given us many stories to remember.

We are already looking forward to 2027, with new events, new trails, new adventures and, hopefully, many familiar faces returning to African Game Lodge.

THE SIGNS ARE GOING UP. THE FINAL TOUCHES HAVE STARTED.

This Sunday, 30 August, African Game Lodge will welcome the final Makadas Winter Trail Series.

Whether you take on the 18 km Slagkloof, the 12 km, the 5 km, or choose to explore the route at your own pace, the goal is the same:

Give every runner and walker an experience worth remembering.

But before the first runner arrives, there is still work to be done.
Routes must be checked.
Markers must be placed.
Signs must point the way.
Rocks and obstacles must be considered.
Every turn and crossing must be prepared.

These are the final touches that most people will never notice and that is exactly how it should be.

Because on Sunday, we want you to focus on the trail ahead.
The mountains.
The kloofs.
The open Karoo.
The challenge.
The people around you.

You choose the distance. We will help prepare the journey.

EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT THE GOAL.
The time.
The distance.
The climb.
The finish.

When riding a trail, it is easy to focus on one thing:
Get there.
Ride faster.
Beat the previous time.
Reach the top.

But today I stopped and looked around.
At the river crossing.
At the rocks.
At the trail.

And I noticed something most of us never think about. Someone picked up those rocks. Someone walked this trail before we did.
Someone moved obstacles. Cleared the route. Marked the way.

Not for applause. Not to stand at the finish line. But so that the rest of us could enjoy the journey.

And perhaps that is something we should remember more often.

Set the goal. Chase the target. Push yourself. But don't become so focused on the destination that you forget to see the journey or the people who quietly made it possible.
