The North West Provincial Legislature conducted an oversight visit to Moretele Local Municipality, where members visited the Dikebu Village housing project. The Department has successfully completed the final 20 housing units, bringing the total number of completed houses to the approved 300 units.

The Department’s Regional Director for Bojanala, Mr Muzi Mashabane, briefed the Portfolio Committee on the progress of the project, noting that while there were minor challenges during implementation, the project has ultimately progressed well.

“The project initially encountered challenges due to the developer’s poor performance, which resulted in a difficult start. However, the situation improved significantly following the appointment of a highly skilled project manager to oversee the implementation of the project,” said Mashabane.

During the visit, one of the beneficiaries, Mr Martin Kotu, expressed his appreciation to the Department for completing his house.

“I am grateful that the Department completed my house on time, and I look forward to moving into my new home soon,” said Kotu.

Mayor of Moretele Local Municipality Accounts to Communities During Dipetlelwane Imbizo

The Mayor of Moretele Local Municipality, Cllr Masango George Manyike, today hosted a community Imbizo at the Dipetlelwane Sports Ground, where he accounted to residents on the municipality’s programmes, progress, and service delivery commitments.

Community members from Wards 02, 03, 06, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, and surrounding areas gathered to engage directly with the Mayor, who was accompanied by Members of the Mayoral Committee, councillors, and senior municipal officials.

The Imbizo provided residents with an opportunity to raise concerns, ask questions, and receive updates on key municipal programmes and development initiatives. Discussions focused on critical issues affecting communities, including water provision, sanitation, electricity, roads, housing, infrastructure development, and local economic opportunities.

By bringing together residents from several wards, the municipality encouraged a broader and more inclusive dialogue on matters affecting the wider Moretele community, while reinforcing the principles of transparency, accountability, and participatory governance.

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Manyike encouraged residents to continue working closely with the municipality to improve service delivery and community development.

“These community engagements are an important platform for ensuring that local government remains accountable and responsive to the needs of our people. Together, we can build a better Moretele through active public participation,” said Mayor Manyike.

The municipality remains committed to strengthening engagement with communities through regular public participation platforms that promote transparency, responsiveness, and collaborative governance.
