We found the Cost of Supply document Mossel Bay refused to provide to ratepayers

THE TRUTH !
Our review and analysis now raise serious questions around the calculations used to justify electricity charges, fixed fees, losses and final tariff increases imposed on residents.

Ratepayers deserve transparency โ€” especially when these calculations directly impact monthly household costs.

The COS document and our analysis link is in the comments .

At the open Council meeting of 28 May 2026, Council approved the upgrading and extension of public parking areas in Hartenbos to address increasing demand and support local economic activity.

The project focuses on portions of Erven 2 and 4940, where existing parking and open space will be redeveloped into a modern, user-friendly public parking facility. This initiative is closely linked to the planned expansion of the Hartenbos Spar, which requires additional parking while also providing an opportunity to revitalise the broader business node.

Council approved that the upgrades will be undertaken by the developer at its own cost, including improvements to surrounding pavements, roads, landscaping, and signage. These enhancements will remain public assets and are intended to benefit both local businesses and the wider community by improving accessibility and reducing congestion.

Importantly, the development will support not only the Spar expansion but also other businesses in the area, contributing to a more attractive and functional commercial hub. The upgraded parking area will remain open for public use, ensuring continued access for residents and visitors.

This decision forms part of a broader effort to modernise key areas in Hartenbos, improve infrastructure efficiency, and support sustainable economic growth.

STATEMENT

During its second firearm destruction process in the 2025/2026 financial year, the South African Police Service (SAPS) destroyed more than 13,000 illegal fi****ms, including 2,155 from the Western Cape.

Christians has welcomed this development, stating:
โ€œThis is a commendable effort by SAPS to remove illegal fi****ms from our streets and make our communities safer.โ€

The fi****ms were confiscated through various policing operations. Some were linked to criminal cases and were only destroyed after the conclusion of investigations.

Christians further raised concern about the current destruction process:
โ€œWhile the destruction of illegal fi****ms is commendable, it is concerning that these weapons must be transported to Vanderbijlpark for destruction.โ€

Over a seven-year period, 305,937 fi****ms have been destroyed โ€” an average of more than 43,000 per year.

In light of this, the ACDP renews its call for the establishment of a firearm destruction facility in the Western Cape. Such a facility would improve efficiency and reduce risks associated with transporting confiscated weapons.
โ€œIllegal fi****ms must be prevented at all costs from finding their way back onto our streets,โ€ Christians emphasised.

Statement: Visibility Saves Lives

A great concern over the growing number of motorists who fail to switch on their headlights during poor visibility conditions, such as dawn, dusk, heavy rain, fog, and overcast weather is alarming says Christians.

Headlights are not only intended to help drivers see the road ahead, but also to ensure that vehicles are clearly visible to other motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, and emergency personnel. Negligence in this regard places lives at unnecessary risk and contributes to avoidable road accidents across the Western Cape.

The ACDP calls on all drivers to exercise greater responsibility and caution, particularly during the winter season when visibility is often reduced. Simple actions, such as switching on headlights, can save lives and prevent tragedy.

The party further encourages traffic authorities to intensify awareness campaigns and strengthen law enforcement efforts aimed at promoting safer driving habits on our roads.
