Today, we commemorate the 71st Anniversary of the Freedom Charter, adopted on 26 June 1955 at the Congress of the People in Kliptown. The Freedom Charter remains a beacon of hope and the foundation of South Africa's democratic values, calling for equality, justice, and shared prosperity for all.

Today, we commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the June 16 Soweto Uprising, a defining moment in our nation's struggle for freedom and justice. We honour the bravery, sacrifice and resilience of the youth of 1976 who stood against oppression and changed the course of South African history.
