It takes a village... and a plumber.

FOMP were recently granted permission to restore the ā€˜park office’. This building - located above the old Bowling Clubhouse - is largely storage space, but also contains ablution facilities. The building had been locked up for some years but in that time had been vandalized and stripped.

The restoration process began with the city’s Recreation & Parks department who rewired the building, adding new lights and power points, and restoring the electricity connection.

Then it was time to fix the plumbing.

FOMP put the word out and well-known local plumber Charles Watt (Watt’s Plumbing) immediately put up his hand. In no time at all, he had generously offered to carry out the work at cost. And then, after sharing this story with one of his suppliers, Tokai Sanitary and Plumbing Supplies, they offered the replacement sanitaryware and fittings for free. Thanks guys!

So now the park office has a functional toilet, urinal, and hand basin, all connected to a working sewer system.

At this time we’re not able to keep ablutions open all the time - the city requires that ablutions have full-time attendants in order to avoid vandalism - but in the meantime we can offer the ablutions to those who wish to hold events in the park.

Thanks again to Watt’s Plumbing who’ve been serving the Muizenberg community since 1999. You can reach them on 021 788 1114 or [email protected].

And of course, thanks to Fabian Donnoli at Tokai Sanitary and Plumbing Supplies, for their generous support. You can reach them on 021 745 3225 or [email protected].

After years of digging, planting and restoring, a critically endangered patch of wetland fynbos in Muizenberg Park is on the brink of completion.

The calm after the storm. Just a few days ago, it was a very different picture at the newest pond in the park. Luckily, even with the very heavy rains, the landscaping work had held up. We’ve already met children, dog walkers and now an artist enjoying the picturesque setting. Come and enjoy it for yourself.

Come and see the transformation for yourself! The sun is out today and the newly excavated pond is full from the rains. We are so pleased with the outcome and we’re not quite done yet. There is still planting and a few finishing touches to be completed. If you would like to play a part in shaping this incredible natural space, make a donation. Big or small - every bit counts as a seedling only costs around R25. Follow the link on our bio to find out SnapScan link.

There’s lots of work happening in Muizenberg Park today.

Your first clue might be the Canary Palm behind the old Clubhouse which has had a long overdue haircut. Much pruning and removal of deadwood has taken place in other areas. This includes the removal of some metrosideros thickets from the main stream. These invasives were crowding out the new fynbos in that area, they will be replaced with indigenous hardy shade trees which we hope to source from the city.

We’ve left the ancient Manitoka in place on the Camp road side of the main stream; though not indigenous it’s a beautiful tree that shades the first waterfall. We’ll be looking to source indigenous trees from the city to supplement any removals.

But the star attractions are surely the new ponds on the upper lawns. Much soft landscaping has been done here so you can get a real sense of what these will look like once they become established.

Go have a look, there’s a lot to see.
