This week we held our Friends of Muizenberg Park (FOMP) meeting somewhere very exciting - the Park Ablution Block. This may sound bizarre, but for FOMP members this was the result of more than a year of groundwork. We've had a vision to have working ablutions in our park, but once we got access to the space, we've realised this building offers much more than just ablution facilities. So much so, that we are now referring to this space as the Park Office!
Right now, we need paint! White PVA. Perhaps you have a half drum in the garage or can donate the cost of a few litres. Every bit will help us freshen up this community space.
Skills we need: tiling, skimming, concrete work, installing ceiling board, general handyman work
First materials we need: an interior doors and fittings, a mirror, shelving, fabric for curtains, ceiling boards, curtain rods
What we've achieved so far:
- Cleaned the space after years of neglect and vandalism
- City of Cape Town installed new wiring and reconnected electricity
- Watt's Plumbing unblocked the sewer lines, and reconnected the water mains
- Tokai Sanitary & Plumbing Supplies donated new sanitary ware, installed by Watt's Plumbing
- Watts Plumbing did all their work at cost!
We're not able to provide access to the ablution facilities on a daily basis, as the city requires that such facilities have a full-time attendant to prevent vandalism - neither FOMP nor Recreation & Parks have the budget for such. But we can allow groups, gatherings, and events access to these facilities by prior arrangement, with a donation requested to cover costs and support future park upgrades.
Get in touch with FOMP if you can help! Donations can be made here: pos.snapscan.io/qr/PXMP6576
