YOUNG COMMUNIST LEAGUE OF SOUTH AFRICA
Mpumalanga Province, 08 May 2018
YCLSA Mpumalanga condemns acts of gender-based violence and calls for action against perpetrators!
The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] in Mpumalanga province is disgusted and taken-aback by allegations of domestic worker-abuse levelled against Mduduzi Manana. This is extremely disappointing because we are still engaged on the Red October 2017/18 Campaign to end gender-based violence against women and children. The acts of Mduduzi Manana are shameful noting that it is not for the first time he is alleged to have assaulted women.
We call on the ANC to act swiftly against this occurrence, especially from someone who represents the ANC in Parliament and NEC. We are of the view that his acceptance of guilt and apology in 2017 was more of a lip-service to garner sympathy towards the 54th National Conference of the ANC rather than being remorseful.
It is only cowards who will, without conscious and conscience abuse women. While we can agree that, patriarchy is an ideological construct of a system encompassing ideologies, beliefs, values and practices underpinning the structure of society, resulting in unequal power relations between men and women; the suppression and subordination of women in all spheres of life, is still prevalent and we cannot keep quiet when comrades become benefactors of such barbaric system.
Females are the majority in the receiving end of gender-based violence and men who misuse their positions of authority to abuse women, either use crude forms of violence. We need to move to an overall paradigm-shift in our thinking and this will be evidenced by more women being respected and empowered without any expectation of reward.
Stop and act against gender-based violence. That’s the bottom-line because the YCLSA say so!
