Our electrical team was on the ground working, fixing, and ensuring the high mast lights are working.

High mast lights in Ward 9 and streetlights at Grosvenor, Haarlem, Stavenisse, Mollengraaf, and the R71 were all fixed.

This was part of the Letsema Service Delivery Campaign.

UPDATE: LULEKANI BULK LINE REPAIR.

Date: 06 September 2026.

Please be informed that the repair work on the 350mm bulk line supplying Lulekani had to be temporarily suspended due to challenging ground conditions. The back actor became stuck twice, and due to poor visibility, it was unsafe to continue with the excavation and repair work.

The line has been isolated, and approximately 2.9 kL is currently being supplied into the Lulekani Reservoir.

The repair work will resume this morning. Every effort will be made to complete the repair and restore normal water supply as soon as possible.

Public Notice:

Lepelle Northern Water is aware of the current water shortage affecting some areas, mainly due to low reservoir levels.

The situation is expected to gradually improve as the reservoirs recover.
We anticipate that from tomorrow, most of the affected areas will start receiving water, as the system continues to stabilise and reservoir levels

Further updates will be provided as the situation improves.

Public Notice.

Residents are hereby informed that the current power outage affecting Phalaborwa is not originating from the municipal electricity network.

The fault has been reported as being on the Eskom side.

The fault is on the main Eskom supply line that distributes electricity to the wider Phalaborwa area, resulting in a widespread power interruption.

We are aware of the situation and are engaging with Eskom regarding the fault and restoration of electricity.

Residents are urged to remain patient while the relevant technical teams attend to the matter. Further updates will be communicated as more information becomes available.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank residents for their patience and understanding.

UPDATE ON NAMAKGALE WATER SUPPLY

Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality would like to inform residents that we are aware of the water supply interruptions in the Namakgale areas.

We are pleased to announce that a high-level stakeholder team, including leadership from Mopani District Municipality, Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality, and Lepelle Northern Water, conducted an urgent oversight inspection at the Namakgale Reservoir site over the last 48 hours to address our ongoing water challenges.

Our technical teams have identified major structural and network issues affecting water inflows such as physical leak at the base of the 13 ML reservoir, compounded by a broken isolation valve and critical water losses along the main supply line due to illegal connections.

Lepelle Northern Water will be on site tomorrow, Thursday, 3 September 2026, to commence with the removal of illegal connections on the rising main line to stop massive water losses and boost system pressure.

Once the main line is secured, Lepelle Northern Water is confident reservoir levels will recover above 80%, allowing us to restore a normal, consistent water supply to the entire community.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this issue has caused.

Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality proudly joins the citizens of Limpopo in offering warm congratulations to Mr P**e Shayi following his official swearing-in today as a Member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature and his appointment as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA).

A distinguished leader born and raised in Ga-Mashishimale Village under Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality, Mr Shayi’s political journey reflects a lifetime of steadfast commitment to public service and community development.

His proven track record in municipal leadership includes key governance milestones in Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality, notably serving as its Mayor in 2016, before taking on broader district responsibilities as the Executive Mayor of the Mopani District Municipality in 2019.

His deep-rooted experience in local government uniquely equips him to steer the COGHSTA portfolio with vision and decisive action.

Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality Mayor, Cllr Merriam Malatji, held a meeting with Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL) CEO, Mr Jacob Chesane, and PMC Executive Management as co-funders of the project at the Mayor's Parlour this afternoon, Wednesday, 02 September 2026.

The meeting was held regarding the upgrading/rehabilitation of Road D4424 from the Lulekani turn-off via the R71 road to Lulekani Matiko Xikaya and the Benfarm road in the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality, covering a total distance of 16.5 km.

The project is scheduled to commence on 1 October 2026.

Also in attendance were Speaker Cllr Oliver Mabunda, Chief Whip Didodo Rapatsa, Majeje Traditional Council representative Mr Ceko, and Senior Manager for Technical Services Mr Makungu Khoza.
