Darwin's rhea or the lesser rhea (Rhea pennata). The first to arrive in Africa!! The smallest ratite that i have worked with. Especially rare species to acquire!!!

Although incomplete, we have made great progress in our large in-flight aviary. The photography/viewing hide is crucial for monitoring behaviour without disturbing the birds and provides an additional feature for our guests as well.

Thanks to some wonderful efforts from a whole team of people we were able to acquire new stock from the best lines in the world. We will, as always, maintain healthy pure lines to ensure that we do our part in avian conservation. Many rare and endangered species are reliant on a healthy captive population.
