MEC Maila Concludes Unannounced Visit to Lebowakgomo Hospital

Friday, 4 September 2026

[Lebowakgomo]MEC for Health in Limpopo, Mr Eddie Maila, has concluded an unannounced visit to Lebowakgomo Hospital in Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality, as part of his commitment to strengthening service delivery and supporting healthcare workers on the ground.

During the visit, MEC Maila conducted a walkabout across key service points, including the Pharmacy, Casualty, EMS Station and Out-Patient Department (OPD), engaging with staff and assessing the overall operations of the facility.

While impressed with the general functioning of the hospital, the MEC raised concern over prolonged patient waiting times, noting that some patients had arrived as early as 06:00 but had still not received services by around 10:00.

MEC Maila directed the CEO, Mr Seepe, to urgently address the waiting-time challenge and ensure that patients receive timely, efficient and dignified care.

"Improving the patient experience must remain a priority while sustaining the positive aspects of the hospital’s operations" said MEC Maila.

The visit forms part of the MEC’s hands-on approach to leadership being present in healthcare facilities, listening to staff and patients, identifying challenges and ensuring that corrective action is taken where necessary.
