RESILIENCE STARTS AT HOME

Polokwane Municipality’s Disaster Management Unit is bringing safety closer to the people through a joint disaster management exhibition and awareness campaign at Mall of the North parking lot, from 7–11 September 2026, 09:00–15:00 daily.

From fire safety and disaster preparedness to waste management, environmental protection, crime prevention, road safety, SAPS services and local economic opportunities, the message is simple: an informed community is an empowered community.

Leeto La Polokwane will also be on site to assist residents with information on new cards and ticket sales, while Heritage Month visitors can explore Mahala Week packages and discover the attractions of the City of Stars.

A TIME TO LISTEN, A TIME TO SERVE

The Executive Mayor of Polokwane Municipality, Cllr Makoro John Mpe, today joined thousands of worshippers and dignitaries at the ZCC September Service in Moria.

The sermon was delivered by His Grace, the Right Reverend Bishop Dr Barnabas Edward Lekganyane, in a gathering also attended by Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mamoloko Kubayi, among other leaders.

Reflecting on the message of the day, the Executive Mayor quoted James 1:19: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”

For the municipality, this scripture carries a profound lesson in public service: listen to our communities, understand their needs, respond with wisdom, and lead with patience and humility.

As we serve the people of Polokwane, we are reminded that leadership is first about listening to them.

A NEW CHAPTER IN SESHEGO’S WATER STORY

Today, the taps of progress are flowing stronger in Seshego.

Minister of Water and Sanitation, Pemmy Majodina, joined the Executive Mayor of Polokwane Municipality, Cllr Makoro John Mpe, to officially open and hand over the Seshego Water Treatment Plant—a landmark intervention that strengthens the City’s water security and brings tangible relief to communities.

Among the dignitaries present are MEC for Treasury Kgabo Mahoai representing the Premier; Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation David Mahlobo; Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance Dr Namane Dickson Masemola; and MEC for COGHSTA P**e Shai.

With a design capacity of 10 megalitres per day, the plant can inject between 8 and 10 million litres of treated water into the municipal system every day, serving approximately 91,500 people.

Construction began in November 2019, reached practical completion in June 2023, and the plant was officially commissioned in May 2024.

The investment tells its own story:
RBIG funding: R202.155 million
Municipal funding: R32.001 million
Total construction cost: R234.156 million

For the City of Polokwane, this is what decisive leadership looks like: investing in infrastructure today so that communities can have a more secure tomorrow.

Water is life. Infrastructure is the bridge. Today, that bridge is firmly planted in Seshego.
