WARM WELCOME FOR MEC KEKANA AT PHAMOKO TOWERS

The corridors of Phamoko Towers were filled with warmth and celebration this morning as MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms Nakedi Kekana, arrived at the DTCS Head Office for her first official day in the office. She was received by the department's executive management team led by Head of Department Mr Stephen Matjena, with cake, flowers, balloons and heartfelt words of excitement and appreciation from the DTCS family.

Having already hit the ground running last week, moving straight to the coalface to oversee law enforcement operations. MEC Kekana's arrival at the head office marked a homecoming of purpose. The atmosphere was one of pride and renewed energy, as employees expressed their excitement and readiness to continue working under her capable and committed leadership.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY
SUNDAY, 06 SEPTEMBER 2026

ZCC PILGRIMAGE: MORIA TRAFFIC UPDATE

The Department of Transport and Community Safety wishes to advise all motorists of the following traffic updates around Moria and surrounding routes:

The ZCC church sermon is expected to conclude at 15h00 this afternoon, with church buses expected to start departing from Moria from 16h00.

High traffic volumes are expected on the following routes:

Around Moria: R71 in both directions and D4040 (Boyne-Maja) road are expected to experience heavy traffic, which will later spill over to R37 towards Burgersfort and R579 towards Lebowakgomo.

Polokwane Directions: The N1 Bypass towards N1 and R101 southbound, as well as R81 and N1 northbound, will experience a sharp increase in traffic volume. This includes D19 Matlala Road and R567 Gilead Road towards N11.

Motorists travelling towards *Gauteng* are urged to be extra patient, as long queues are expected at tollgates due to the high volume of buses heading in that direction.

We urge all motorists to:

- Exercise patience and courtesy on the road;
- Avoid driving on gravel shoulders during congestion; and
- Observe speed limits and road signs.

Our traffic officers are combat-ready and strategically deployed from the Moria gates and across all corners of the province to monitor the situation and ensure everyone Arrives Alive.

MEC NAKEDI KEKANA JOINS THE NATION AT SAPS NATIONAL COMMEMORATION DAY 2026

Union Buildings, Pretoria – 07 September 2026

The MEC for Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo, Ms. Nakedi Kekana, today joined the nation at the Union Buildings in Pretoria for the South African Police Service National Commemoration Day 2026.

It was a sombre and emotional occasion as bereaved families arrived to honour their loved ones – brave men and women in blue who paid the ultimate price while serving and protecting South Africa.

The commemoration was led by Acting National Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili, alongside SAPS Top Management and officials from across the country.

MEC Kekana joined fellow MECs from various provinces who were accompanying the families, as well as His Excellency, President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, Acting Minister of Police, Mr. Firoz Cachalia, and Deputy Minister of Police, Mr. Cassel Mathale, who laid wreaths at the SAPS Memorial Site.

MEC Kekana paid tribute to the fallen heroes, emphasizing that their courage and sacrifice remain the foundation of a safe and secure South Africa.

“An attack on SAPS members and law enforcement officers is an attack on democracy itself,” said MEC Kekana. “We must protect those who protect us.”

The Department of Transport and Community Safety bows its head in honour of all fallen officers.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

BRAVING THE COLD | MEC NAKEDI KEKANA LEADING BY EXAMPLE

Saturday, 06 September 2026

While many were still warming up under blankets this cold Saturday morning, MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms. Nakedi Kekana, was already on the road – braving the cold and leading from the front.

The MEC spent the morning monitoring traffic flow along major routes, specifically the N1 and R71, where thousands of ZCC pilgrims are travelling towards Zion City Moria.

The MEC has commended the ZCC for its well-coordinated and disciplined bus trips, which have made traffic flow much easier for all motorists.

As part of her oversight, MEC Kekana also made an unannounced stop at the Mantsole Weighbridge – one of the busiest weighbridges in Southern Africa.

Her message was clear: The era of overloaded buses and trucks is coming to an end. Surprise visits to weighbridges and other traffic facilities will now be the norm.

"The lives of motorists and all other road users come first," said MEC Kekana, while also praising the dedication of our hard-working traffic officers who are out in the cold ensuring everyone Arrives Alive.

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT AND COMMUNITY SAFETY CELEBRATES WOMEN'S DAY IN STYLE

Modimolle, Waterberg District – 04 September 2026

The Department of Transport and Community Safety today held a vibrant and empowering Women’s Day celebration at the Castle De Wildt Hotel in Modimolle.

The celebration was graced by the Mayor of Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality, Cllr. Anna Mboweni, who, together with the Senior Management Service (SMS) of the Department, delivered a keynote address on behalf of the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms. Nakedi Kekana, who could not attend.

In her heartfelt message, MEC Kekana expressed her sincere gratitude to Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba for the confidence shown in her to lead this critical Department.

"When we talk about Transport and Community Safety, people think of big trucks, tar roads, and roadblocks at night," the MEC said in her speech. "But the truth is: *This Department moves because women move it.*"

She paid special tribute to the women who are the backbone of the Department – Senior Management Women, Women Traffic Officers braving the roads day and night, Women Cleaners, General Workers and Office Support staff who keep the wheels turning.

Reaffirming her commitment to women's empowerment, MEC Kekana announced three clear commitments:

1. That no woman in the Department must feel unsafe at work;
2. To audit training and promotion opportunities to ensure fair growth for women; and
3. To establish a *Women in Transport and Community Safety Forum* that will meet quarterly and report directly to her office.

The celebration was filled with joy, unity and renewed commitment to building a department where women are safe, valued and empowered to lead.

PREMIER AND MEC TAKE SECURITY OVERSIGHT TO BEITBRIDGE AND MUSINA

Following the early successes of the morning operation in Musina, Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba, MEC for Transport and Community Safety Ms Nakedi Kekana and Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Jan Scheepers continued the day with a strategic oversight tour across the border town.

The delegation was taken through the advanced surveillance capabilities guarding our northern gateway at the Beitbridge Border Gate, including a demonstration of the drone technology used to monitor movement along the border. They further visited the border fence and the low-lying river crossings where illegal entry into South Africa is prevalent.

The oversight extended into Musina town where shops were inspected, leading to the arrest of owners found selling expired food items and living in the country through fraudulent marriages. A simultaneous roadblock operation also led to the arrest of illegal immigrants. It was a day of full-spectrum policing from sky to fence, from streets to shops, a clear signal that the law is present, vigilant and turning the tide towards a safer, more secure Limpopo.
