Missionvale Care Centre We are a non profit organization operating in the extremely poor township of Missionvale. Sr Ethel Normoyle founded the Centre under a tree in 1988.

There is a wealth of potential in this community and we strive to unlock it through a wide variety of education, skills development and health care initiatives. What if a birthday could do more than celebrate one person? What if it could help carry something they started?

Today is Annie van der Merwe’s birthday…

After years of serving the people of Missionvale as a nurse at our Clinic, Sr Annie saw another need close to her heart: the animals of Missionvale. She saw those who were sick, hungry, injured or simply needed care and she chose to do something about it.

She started our Animal Care Program, giving these animals a chance at the care and kindness they deserve.

So, from now until the end of September, we’re raising R60,000 to support our Animal Care; helping provide pet food, vaccinations, harnesses, warm blankets and essential care.

And you can be part of it. 💙

We are looking for a *HR Consultant / HR Advisor* to support our organisation on a flexible, part-time consulting basis.

You’ll have the opportunity to work directly with management, providing professional HR guidance while helping strengthen our HR practices, documentation and compliance.

Your responsibilities will include:

✔️ Providing practical HR advice and guidance to management
✔️ Advising on South African employment legislation, including the *BCEA and LRA*
✔️ Supporting employee leave, attendance, conduct and performance matters
✔️ Providing initial guidance on disciplinary and grievance processes
✔️ Reviewing employment contracts and HR documentation
✔️ Preparing and reviewing HR letters and correspondence
✔️ Reviewing HR policies

Last year, Marinus Rautenbach from Kanu Equipment watched our Under-9 rugby team take to the field in different T-shirts — a small reflection of some of the challenges and limited resources our children face. But he saw beyond the shirts. He saw a team, potential and children who deserved to feel proud representing their school.

That moment stayed with him and through his connection with Herbert Hurd, it has now become something incredibly special.

Today, our young players received their very own rugby jerseys, proudly carrying the Normoyle Primary School logo. A jersey they can wear with pride.

A heartfelt thank you to Marinus Rautenbach & Herbert Hurd for the generous donation and for seeing our children, making the connection and helping turn a moment on the sidelines into something meaningful. 💙🏉

For a month now, our school (Normoyle Primary) has been dealing with sewage flooding on the school premises.

This has created an unacceptable health and safety risk for our learners, staff and the wider school community. A school simply cannot be expected to operate under these conditions!

The matter has been reported to the relevant authorities, and we have a Ref Number:2068838. However, after weeks of following up DAILY, we continue to be referred back and forth between the Municipality and the local councillor, with the matter still unresolved.

A month is too long. Our children deserve to learn in an environment that is safe, clean and healthy.

We appeal to the relevant municipal departments and officials to attend to this matter, URGENTLY!

Our ITDC soccer & netball teams took on our good friends from Indlela Mental Health New Brighton in the Ubunye Sports Tournament semi-finals.

It’s been a minute since we’ve linked up, so it was good to see the Indlela team again, even if we had to compete against each other this time! 😂

On World Humanitarian Day, we remember Sr Ethel Normoyle, a woman whose life of service reached far beyond Missionvale. In 1996, Sr E received the Tipperary Peace Award, a recognition of the extraordinary humanitarian work she was doing.

But behind the award was the same woman who had always simply seen a need and chosen to do something about it.

She saw poverty. She saw children who needed opportunities. She saw families who needed support. And above all, she saw people with potential, dignity and a future worth fighting for.

She set out to serve. She cared deeply. She showed up. She listened. She fought for better opportunities. And she never stopped believing that change was possible.

Because humanitarianism is not only about the awards or recognition that may come afterwards…It can be as simple as seeing someone, caring enough to act and refusing to look away.

That was Sr Ethel 🩵🏆
