At Wings & Wishes, we remove that barrier, ensuring children can focus on what matters most: receiving expert medical care and the chance to heal.

Sunday is one of the busiest days at Wings & Wishes, as children from across South Africa begin their journeys to specialist hospitals for the week ahead.

Yesterday, 7 children from 4 different provinces travelled with us, each on a journey filled with hope.

One of these brave little travellers was Kwakhyanya, who is on the way to Red Cross Children's Hospital to receive the expert medical care he needs.

Whether it's a child's very first journey or one of many, every trip matters. Every flight, every bus ticket, every transfer brings a child one step closer to life-changing treatment.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible airline and transport partners, donors, and dedicated volunteers. Your generosity and compassion make these journeys possible and remind every family that they are not travelling alone.

Over the Easter weekend in 2024, we received the life-changing call that a liver had become available for Silu. It was the moment his family had been praying for.

The transplant was a success, and today Silu is thriving.

This morning, he boarded his 22nd Wings & Wishes flight as he travels to Red Cross Children's Hospital for a routine check-up with his transplant team. What was once an uncertain future has become a journey filled with hope, healing, and new beginnings.

Every follow-up appointment is an important reminder that transplantation is not the end of the journey—it's the start of a new chapter.

Since 2023, 14-year-old Kungawo from Queenstown has been travelling to Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town for treatment.

Getting to the care she needs has never been easy. The long-distance journey comes with a huge financial burden for her family, made even more difficult because Kungawo needs to keep her leg straight while travelling — sometimes meaning the family has had to pay for two seats just to get her safely and comfortably to hospital.

Faced with the ongoing cost of these journeys, her family reached out to Wings & Wishes for help.

Yesterday, Kungawo’s journey looked very different. She was able to fly from East London to Cape Town for her hospital visit — turning a long, uncomfortable trip into a much easier journey.

A heartfelt thank you to FlySafair for helping us put hope in motion, to Port Rex Lions for meeting the family, and to HERTZ for helping ensure Kungawo gets safely to the hospital.

Partnerships like these mean that families can focus on what matters most — their child’s treatment and recovery, rather than how they will afford to get there.

We are incredibly grateful to announce that Intercape has renewed its partnership with Wings & Wishes, generously sponsoring bus tickets to help critically and chronically ill children reach specialist medical care across South Africa.

For many of the families we support, treatment is hundreds of kilometres away from home. The cost of getting there can become yet another burden during an already challenging journey. Thanks to Intercape, that journey becomes possible.

Every sponsored bus ticket means a child can reach an important consultation, treatment, procedure or follow-up appointment — accompanied by a caregiver and with one less financial worry.

Anothando, from Fort Beaufort in the Eastern Cape, is traveling to Red Cross Children's Hospital for life-saving cardiac surgery.

At just four months old, he has already shown incredible strength, and today we are honoured to help him and his family reach the specialist care he needs.

Please keep little Anothando, his family, and the medical team in your thoughts as they prepare for this important surgery. We are wishing him a safe procedure and a speedy recovery.

Early mornings are synonymous with Wings & Wishes!

This morning, 7-year-old Mila from Calitzdorp took to the skies on her very first flight as she travelled to Red Cross Children's Hospital for a follow-up consultation. Mila lives with West Syndrome and navigates life in a wheelchair, but that hasn't stopped her from facing each journey with incredible courage.

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing Journey Angels from George Lions for seeing Mila and her family off, helping calm those first-flight nerves and making the start of their journey a little less daunting.

Thank you also to HERTZ for meeting them at Cape Town International Airport and ensuring they arrived safely at Red Cross Hospital.

It truly takes a village to make these life-changing journeys possible. Safe travels, Mila – we're cheering you on every step of the way.

Early this morning, 3-year-old Maliqhame began another important step on her journey to hope.

She is travelling to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Johannesburg, where she will undergo a series of tests and assessments as part of the workup for a life-saving liver transplant.

Every journey brings her one step closer to the chance of a healthier future.
