🚨 UNITED AGAINST GBVF | NELSON MANDELA BAY DISTRICT YOUTH CRIME PREVENTION DESK

The Nelson Mandela Bay District Youth Crime Prevention Desk stands firmly against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide and will proudly participate in the GBV & Femicide Awareness March and the Women in Leadership Indaba on Friday, 7 August 2026.

As young leaders committed to building safer communities, we believe that enough is enough. Every woman and child deserves to live free from fear, violence and abuse. The fight against GBVF requires all of us to speak out, stand together and take meaningful action.

We call on young people, community leaders, stakeholders and residents to join us as we honour the legacy of the women of 1956 by championing safety, equality and justice for all.

Together, we will raise our voices, break the silence and build communities where women and children are protected, respected and empowered.

Yesterday, the Nelson Mandela Bay District Youth Crime Prevention Desk stood shoulder to shoulder with students at the Security, Safety & Student Wellness Event hosted at Nelson Mandela University’s Bird Street Campus.

The turnout was overwhelming. Lecture halls filled with young people who came not just to listen, but to speak, to challenge, and to lead. Together with the University, the South African Police Service, and the Student Representative Council, Nelson Mandela Bay Pride, we confronted the realities students face daily: crime, fear, and the urgent need for safe spaces to learn and grow.

This was not a tick-box event. It was a declaration. A declaration that the safety of our students is non-negotiable. A declaration that young people are not just victims of crime, but powerful partners in preventing it. We spoke about inclusiveness, belonging, and the programs that can turn campuses into fortresses of opportunity, not fear.

To every student who filled the room: we see you, we hear you, and we are with you. To SAPS and NMU leadership: your commitment matters. To the SRC: your advocacy drives us.

This is the work of the Youth Crime Prevention Desk. We do not sit in offices. We are on the ground, in the halls, with the youth. Yesterday proved what happens when we unite. Nelson Mandela Bay will be safer because of it.

The work continues. The movement grows.

STATEMENT OF CONDEMNATION

WE ARE ANGRY. WE ARE HURTING. AND WE CONDEMN THIS.

The Nelson Mandela Bay District Youth Crime Prevention Desk condemns, in the strongest terms, the execution-style murders of Sandile Ngoqo, 22, and Mazizi Ntshibilili, 19.

They left home on 16 April 2026. By 17 April, both were dead. Shot. Dumped. Gone.

NO ONE DESERVES THIS. No mother should identify her child’s body. No father should bury his son like this. This is not gangsterism — this is evil. This is cowardice.

TO THE FAMILIES: We see your pain. We stand with you. We are asking every single person in this Metro: GIVE THESE FAMILIES PRIVACY. GIVE THEM RESPECT. GIVE THEM SPACE TO GRIEVE. Stop sharing photos. Stop sharing rumours. Stop making their worst day your entertainment.

TO THIS COMMUNITY: We are the Youth Crime Prevention Desk. This is our mandate. And we are telling you now — ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. These killers walk among us. They buy bread at the same shops. They sleep in our neighbourhoods. And they will kill again if we protect them with silence.

WE ARE CALLING YOU OUT: If you know something, YOU ARE NOW PART OF THE PROBLEM IF YOU STAY QUIET. Come forward. Speak to SAPS. Speak to us. Speak to a pastor. But SPEAK.

Crime prevention is not SAPS’ job alone. It’s ours. It’s yours. _Siya Sebenza_ means we ALL work.

TO SAPS SWARTKOPS AND MOTHERWELL: This Metro is watching. Bring these killers to book. Fast.

We will not march next week and forget next month. We will not light candles and go home. We will fight for justice for Sandile and Mazizi, and we will fight for the next child who is still alive today because of what we do right now.

RE: RECOMMENDATION FOR NEW BRIGHTON YOUTH CRIME PREVENTION DESK

To New Brighton YCPD

The Nelson Mandela Bay District Youth Crime Prevention Desk hereby issues this letter of recommendation for the New Brighton Youth Crime Prevention Desk following their outstanding visibility and participation during the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development Schools Outreach Programme in Nelson Mandela Bay.

While we commend all stakeholders led by DOJ&CD, this letter specifically recognises the contribution of our New Brighton structure.

We noted with appreciation that the New Brighton Desk was present and active during the outreach to six high schools in New Brighton and KwaZakhele, including Cowan, Sophakama, Ithembelihle, Newell, KwaZakhele, and Masibambane High School.

We particularly commend the New Brighton Desk for:
● Being on the ground and visible during a critical government programme
● Representing youth voices in spaces where constitutional education and crime prevention intersect
● Demonstrating readiness to partner with DOJ&CD, SAPS, and other stakeholders
● Setting an example of active citizenship for learners in their own community

The presence of a local Youth Crime Prevention structure at such initiatives strengthens the message to learners: crime prevention starts with us, in our own streets. The New Brighton Desk showed discipline, commitment, and understanding of their mandate.

We therefore recommend the New Brighton Youth Crime Prevention Desk for:
1. Inclusion in future multi-stakeholder programmes in the Metro
2. Capacity building support from District, Province, and National structures
3. Recognition by SAPS and DOJ&CD as a key community partner in New Brighton

We are confident that this structure will continue to grow and make a meaningful impact in the fight against youth crime.
