RECOGNISING SERVICE EXCELLENCE: INKOSI CELE COMMENDS UGU DISASTER MANAGEMENT 🟡🔵🟣

Inkosi Cele of KwaNhlalwane has praised the dedication and commitment of the Ugu District Municipality's Disaster Management Centre for its continued efforts in supporting communities affected by disasters across the district.

Speaking during a community engagement meeting held at the Mfangisale Traditional Authority, attended by Ugu District Municipality Mayor, Cllr Sikhumbuzo Mqadi, and his delegation, Inkosi Cele acknowledged the important role played by the Disaster Management team in coordinating relief interventions and providing assistance to vulnerable households during times of hardship.

Inkosi Cele commended the team's swift response to disaster incidents, their ongoing support to affected communities and their commitment to ensuring that relief reaches those most in need.

The Mayor welcomed the recognition, noting that disaster management remains a critical service that helps protect lives, restore dignity and provide hope to communities facing the impact of natural and human-induced disasters.

Communicators from municipalities, government departments and public entities across KwaZulu-Natal have gathered for the Provincial Communicators Forum, convened by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government and SALGA.

The forum serves as an important platform to strengthen government communication, share best practices and enhance the effectiveness of public engagement across all spheres of government.

Day One featured insightful presentations and discussions on a range of critical topics, including the findings of the Public Perception Tracker Survey, Mastering the Art of Government Communications, the relationship between Local Government Elections and Service Delivery Protests, as well as strategies for combating misinformation and disinformation in the digital age.

The engagements highlighted the vital role communicators play in ensuring that citizens receive accurate, timely and credible information while promoting transparency, accountability and public trust in government institutions.

The forum continues to equip government communicators with the tools and knowledge required to effectively communicate service delivery initiatives and respond to the evolving information landscape.

UGU DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY AND STANDARD BANK PARTNER TO INVEST IN EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT 🟡🟣🔵

The Ugu District Municipality is proud to announce a partnership with Standard Bank in the delivery of a R3 million Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre that will serve local families and create a brighter future for young children in our communities.

This significant investment demonstrates the power of collaboration between the public and private sectors in advancing community development and improving the quality of life for residents.

In addition to providing a safe and nurturing learning environment for children, the project has already created employment opportunities for four local community members, contributing to economic empowerment and skills development within the area.

The completed facility will be officially handed over to the community on 17 July 2026 as part of the Municipality’s Nelson Mandela Day commemorations, symbolising a lasting legacy of hope, education, and community upliftment.

The Ugu District Municipality extends its sincere appreciation to Standard Bank for partnering in this impactful initiative, which reflects our shared commitment to investing in future generations and building stronger, more resilient communities.
