Being a watchman means you are on the watch for things and situations that can harm your family, community and nation. i.e Neighborhood Watch do street patrols to check threats to their communities. They also inform their communities of imminent danger, give updates on e
vents that have already taken place, analyse threats and how best to deal with them. They also unveil the people behind the threats as well as the weapons in their possession. The police, hawks, intelligence, secret service and spies are trained and officially designated to carry out the duties of a watchman by identifying threads to the president, country and communities. A good watchman can identify threats before they happen and warn those who may be affected by them. Therefore it is essential for the watchmen to love the people he is responsible for. A watchman of a country must be a true patriot. Identifying threats before they happen requires some form of intelligence. I.e the secret service has a network of spies and sophisticated systems of identifying threats. But a simple principle of being a watchman is being aware of your surroundings. This requires visually scanning for danger and listening for dangerous talk. Watchman SA is a watchman forum for the country, and as such most indicators of imminent dangers are in the political space. It is therefore important to be aware of what is happening in the political space, who is saying what, and how it can lead to violence, war, infringement on rights and freedoms, cripple the economy and the livelihood of people. A good watchman also receives intelligence about imminent threats and dangers by seeking the Lord. Moreover, we are exalted that we are not merely at war with flesh and blood (physical beings). We are at war with spiritual forces of evil (Eph 6:12). Behind any evil action, there are also spiritual forces at play. Just as many sick people are freed from afflictions by casting out the demons, we need to look beyond physical manifestations of evil and identify the devil behind it. Throughout history, God revealed the upcoming events to watchmen in dreams and visions and many other ways. No intelligence is better than spiritual intelligence because God is all-knowing. Therefore it is required for a watchman to have a devoted life of prayer and seeking the Lord. Being a watchman also requires being aware of what God is doing. Yes, the bible says we must not be ignorant of the devices of the devil, but being overly occupied by evil threats can lead us to become paranoid and eventually stumbling blocks. After all, it is the Lord that watches the city (Psalm 127: 1). Therefore we can only be effective watchmen to the degree that we seek the Lord.
- Threats and Moral Foundation
Identifying threats requires us to have good perceptions of our surroundings, discernment and the knowledge of what God calls good and what he calls evil. Therefore the word of God is a foundation of true spiritual discernment. Without it, who can know what is good and what is evil? Because of this, true civilization and nations success has come from national that used biblical principles as their foundation. From this foundation, constitutions of many western countries were formed. i.e United States and the United Kingdom. From a world of chaos and barbarism, western nations emerged to promote individual freedoms, protection of life, protection of the environment, equality before the law, education, punishment of evil, enforcement of contracts, freedom of religion, free markets, freedom of expression. All these things can be traced to the bible. They did not come from human philosophy. A watchman is therefore required to understand how biblical principles shaped civilization and human progress. He/She also need to understand the ideological dangers that are contrary to biblical principles and harmful to national progress. i.e Marxism, communism, socialism, totalitarianism etc. The organisation seeks to awaken South Africans to play an active role in shaping the future of the country by:
Educating the public on economic and political issues
Exposing the communist agenda that seeks to grip the whole world
Exposing the fallibility of government in solving social problems
Promote biblical world view in politics and economic policy
Promote individual freedom and free-market economic policies
Promote the preservation of fundamental rights
Identify threats that undermine the future of the country and its people
• Watchman is a political organisation that loves South Africa and is concerned about the future. It seeks to use knowledge and ideas to set free those who blindly believe in dangerous ideologies that put the future of the country at risk.
• The organisation seeks to promote analytical and rational thinking, biblical view of current affairs, prophetic significance of current affairs and call to action all South Africans who care.
• The organisation also seeks to mobilise all South Africans, especially Christians to play a role in shaping the future of South Africa.
• We seek to promote patriotism and the notion of putting South Africans first.
• All this is done in the Spirit of Love to win, ideologically, the public instead of heightening divisions. Although it’s almost inevitable, bashing others for their views or comments is not allowed because the aim is not to act as if we are superior or the others are stupid but to base our arguments on facts. No matter how strongly you feel about your views, make sure that you express them in a way that rather build-up or saves a lost soul
